Changes....
BIG changes are afoot in schools
throughout out NSW. Old Bar PS
has been selected as one of 229
schools to be a part of the Empowering
Local Schools initiative. We
are so lucky to have the opportunity
to be a part of monumental
change. It’s not just about teachers
and students but community and
connecting with families. One of
our focus areas is ‘Promoting Our
School’ – improving the connection
with community and involving parents
more closely in the day-to-day
management of the school.
How do we manage this? One of
the most exciting things happening
at Old Bar School involves our
fabulous canteen. New facilities

and new ideas have allowed for all
kinds of creativity! Old Bar School
canteen can, and will, become a
model for other canteens in this
area. We have begun the process
of providing our children with the
freshest, purest food available.
The ultimate aim is to eliminate
foods containing preservatives and
additives. Already, subtle changes
have occurred. Have you noticed?
Please, please please – if you
are concerned about any of the
changes happening in the canteen,
call in or phone me and voice your
concerns. Ask questions – provide
feedback – make suggestions!
This is our school – these are
our children – let’s give them the
healthiest, most creative canteen
in the district. Thanks Sheryl (and
all your fabulous volunteers) for
helping to make this happen.
2013!
I can’t believe we are planning for
next year already! Estimates have
our school population growing
by 20 students and possibly another
class / teacher. If you know
of students who might be joining
us in 2013 (kindergarten or other
grades) please let us know as this
really assists us in this planning
process. Enrolment applications
can be collected from the administration
office.

We are eventually going to have all

Jack Scanes Benefit
Night
The children of our community
have been nurtured by Deb and
Gary Scanes over the last 36
years in our pre-schools, schools
and TAFE and through all their unwavering
love and support to our
families. Now it is our turn to return
the favour, as their son Jack needs
our help. Jack is currently undergoing
aggressive chemotherapy
for recently diagnosed Leukaemia
(ALL). Jack is surrounded by a
big, loving family, his partner and
soulmate, Amy, and his friends. We
want the whole community to join
us for a night of fun raising funds
for Jack... He’d have our back if
the chips were down and we want
him to know that we’ve got his…
Book Fair
A big thank you to everyone who
supported the Book Fair on
Education Week Open Day.
As a result of your support our
school library receives a
commission of $765.14 worth of
books .

We have reached a total of 18 780
coins!! The class that brought the
most coins in last term was 3/4B.
Each student from this class received
a voucher for an ice block
from the canteen. Keep sending in
the coins to get to our target of 20
000 coins. There will be another
voucher for the class that brings in
the most coins at the end of term
3.

P&C Cookbooks
Anyone wishing to purchase one
of our wonderful cookbooks, you
can collect an order form from the
school office. A collection of additive
and preservative free recipes
for only $10.00 each.
