At Old Bar School we specialise
in extraordinary. It starts with the
students, ably supported by the
teachers and backed up all the
way by our parents and community.
This week we are congratulating
another student who has
achieved an extraordinary result.
Joel Minihan (who also happens
to be a school leader) has been
selected in the NSW Touch Football
team. Joel will compete at
the School Sport Austraila Championships
in Brisbane from Oct
28 - Nov 2, 2012. Joel is an ‘all

heart as he runs onto that field in

EXTRAORDINARY teachers? I’m
surrounded by them! This week
Mrs Hinton was recognised for her
many years of dedication to Old
Bar school when she was presented
with a national teaching award.
The nomination for this award
came from the school community
and honours Lisa as ‘an outstanding
representative of effective
teaching initiatives.’ We’ve know
that for a long time - now everyone
else does too!
A ‘pat on the back’
In the past 2 weeks I’ve enrolled
several new students at Old Bar
School. They come form various
regions and are here for many
reasons. Without exception, the
families have expressed delight in
what they see and hear on their
initial ‘tour’ of our great school.

Some have already checked us
out on the website and feel connected
to Old Bar already. Others
comment on the happy students,
bright classrooms and friendly
service they encounter when they
first arrive. First impressions are so
important! Well done - and a ‘pat
on the back’ to everyone.

Shortly, the staff, students and
parents will be asked to make
comment on the effectiveness on
educational services at Old Bar
School . In the current climate of
change, we are seeking feedback
on all manner of things happening
both within and without our school.
This honest feedback will help to
inform programs and initiatives for
the future education of students at
Old Bar. Your opinions are important
to us. Feedback is critical.
What’s working? What’s not? What
do we need to keep? What needs
to go? Is our communication effective?
Think about these questions
and be prepared to give us honest
comments when we call for them!
It’s all part of a ‘situational analysis.”
We’ll share the results and
include you all in our planning for
the future.
Mr Harwin called in earlier this
week and was able to be a part of
the induction of the new Student
Representative Counsellors. It was
a lovely assembly and I know that
the staff join me in congratulating
all our new reps on their election to
this important position. We value
leadership and all that comes with
it. Next week we’ll publish a list of
our new student counsellors and
hopefully add a couple of photos
as well.

in the NSW PSSA Boys Touch
Football Team. Joel was part of
the Hunter Boys Touch Team who
came third at the State Championships

Beautiful
Our students this week have been
attending interactive EnviroMentor
workshops called Close the Loop.
These workshops showed the chillection,
was also part of the Hunter
Boys Touch Team.
Zone Athletics Carnival
To all students who competed at
the Zone Athletics Carnival at Tuncurry.
All children gave their best
and were a credit to their parents
and the school community. Well
done!
A special congratulations to Nicola
Searles and Molly Arens who qualified
to represent Old Bar School
and the Manning Zone at the
Hunter Regional Athletics Carnival
in Newcastle on Friday 31 August.
Molly will compete in the 11 year
girls 800m and Nicola in the senior
girls 100m,200m and long-jump.

children and assisted in putting

at the Zone Athletics Carnival at
Tuncurry on Friday 10th and 17th

Loud Shirt Day
We are having a Loud Shirt Day
on 19 October to show support for
deaf children. A gold coin donation
for this fundraiser would be appreciated.
School Spelling Bee
Congaratulations to Hayden
Delaney, Harry Ivers, Madison
MacKenzie-Smith and Tara Williams
who were the winners of
the school Spelling Bee. These
students will now represent Old
Bar Public School at the Regional
Spelling Bee Finals in Port Macquarie
on Monday 10 September.

Stage 2 Camp
On Wednesday, students in Years
3 and 4 received notes regarding
the Camp Elim excursion next
term. Four notes on coloured paper
were handed out. Thses notes
included an information letter, a
parent permission with student
behaviour commitment note, medical
form and a list of what to take
to camp.
The total cost of the camp is $120.
All $30 deposits have been paid
and we are now asking that the
remaining $90 be paid by 21 September.
Instalments may also be
made and permission notes and
medical forms are to be returned
by 21 September. Thank you Pip
Thomas.
Any children who did not receive
these notes need to see their class
teacher.
