Principal’s Message
It’s been a busy, busy week! I’m
about to head off to the Trad sporting
fields to watch our soccer teams
playing their first round matches
against Forster Primary. We’ll keep
you posted about the results! I have
just spent some time in classrooms
checking out what the children
have purchased from the Mother’s
Day Stall. Oh, so exciting! Once
again, big thanks to the wonderful
parent helpers who purchased
the gifts and organised the stall.
Mums, I think you will be delighted
with your special gifts on Sunday
morning. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Last night I attended the P&C
meeting (thank you Kim Moses for
the yummy chocolate treats!). Your
P&C have kindly donated $1,000
for the purchase of Stage 2 dictionaries
and for the infants play area.
If you aren’t a member of our P&C,

NAPLAN – a skills
snapshot
If your child is in Year 3 or 5,
they’ll sit NAPLAN tests on May
14-16. And despite what you
may have heard there’s no need
to panic or start an intensive
study program with your child.

at school on Tuesday 14th May
-Language and writing, Wednesday
15th May-Reading and Thursday

test of content instead it tests skills
in literacy and numeracy that are
developed over time through the
school curriculum. If you know that
your child is going to be away on
these dates could you please let
their class teacher know so that a
time can be made to catch up, if

Hunter Girls Soccer
Congratulations to Molly Arens on
her selectiobn in the Hunter Girls
Soccer team. Molly will compete at
the State PSSA Soccer Championships
in Wyong later this month.
Netball
On Tuesday 7th May, the Old Bar
School netball team went to Taree
to play Nabiac Public School in the
school knockout competition. We
left school at 9.30am to prepare
ourselves for the match. Abbie,
Mia and Emily were the shooters
and had a fantastic game. Meanwhile
Molly tripped a few few times
leading to no-cause of injury while
Chloe Coble had a dislocated finger
and had to go to the doctor for
a check-up . Mia also had a headbutt
challenge with the opponent.
Our midcourt players were Lara,
Jade, Molly and Chloe who all had
a great game. Defence, defence,
defence wow what a fantastic effort
from you guys. Paige, Chloe,
Jade and Abbie were outstanding.
We all had a great game and came
out with a great win - 14 to 11.
Big thanks to Chloe Arens for
umpiring, and to Miss Smithurst
and Teena Rushworth for coaching

Rugby League
Our boys played their knockout game
on Tuesday this week. Even though
they played very well, they were
defeated by a better team on the
day. Our boys were galent in defeat
and showed great sportsmanship.

Upper Lansdowne Public School
would like to thank parents, carers
and community members who collected
Woolworths Earn and Learn
tokens for our school in 2012. The
tokens enabled our little school to
receive a wide variety of resources
that will assist students greatly. We
are again participating in the Woolworths
Earn and Learn 2013. The
school has a box outside Woolworths
for collection or they can be left at
the office with Mrs Evenden. Once
again, thank you for your support.

A big thank you to the lovely parents

We would like to wish all Mums,
Nan’s, Nannies, Oma’s, Grammy’s,
Grandmas and Grans a fantastic
relaxing Mothers Day on Sunday.

Biggest Morning Tea
We will be holding our event to
support the Cancer Council on
Wednesday 29th May 2013 in the
School Hall from 10:45. The cost
will be $5-00 which will give you a
cup of Tea or Coffee and a freshly
baked item for morning tea. There
will be lucky door prizes on offer too.
Please mark this date in your
diary and come along to support
this worthwhile charity.
ALL FUNDS RAISED will be directly
given to the Cancer Council.

3/4S Boys Surf World
Class Waves
The swell was up. The point was
pumping at Saltwater Boardriders
(SBI) May comp. Keen from Lucas
Crossingham, 3/4S gets 10 points
for bravery. He faced his fears and
surfed bigger waves for the first
time, Keep it up Lucas, YEEOOW!
Congratulations to Alistair Williams,
3/4S who surfed out the back unassisted
and won the grom’s division.
Ali’s cut backs as getting
razor sharp! Did you know that
you could have a career as a surf
judge? At SBI, surf judging is mentored
by international judge (and ex
Old Bar PS student) Luke Reading.
For an exciting family day at
the beach come check out one of
SBI’s comps. SBI’s comps are held
on the first Sunday of every month.
