National Curriculum
As our country prepares to move to the
first ever National Curriculum our staff
are keeping on the cutting edge of
developments. Aside from the regular
updates from ACARA (the association
responsible for the new curriculum) we
are also constantly receiving updates
from the Independent Schools
Association and Associated Christian
Schools. These organisations have
given us opportunities to be involved in
corporate feedback to ACARA. School
and individual feedback has been
provided to ACARA also. Our curriculum
committees both Primary and
Secondary are constantly monitoring the
development of the National Curriculum
and we will make sure that we are ready
to implement this curriculum in line with
the Queensland Studies Authority and
State Government guidelines. This
process is still being negotiated, but we
will provide more information as time
progresses.
Year Four Poetry
Year Four have been learning how to write many different styles of
poetry using our senses, rhyme, play on words, line patterns, acrostics
and more.
Here are some examples.
A Walk In The Australian Bush by Eli Farrow
I see giant green trees swaying in the breeze
I hear the colourful birds chirping high in the sky
I feel the hot sun beating down on my head
I smell the salt from the ocean coming inland
I taste the disgusting salt on my tongue
A Walk In The Australian Bush by Paris Naiker
I see jumping joeys coming towards me in fright
I hear crackling rocks under my feet as I step
I feel alone in the vast and isolated bush
I smell the bush fire as it moves towards me
I taste the dry air and smoke in my mouth
A Walk In The Australian Bush by Tobiah Cartlidge
I see the native Aboriginal running to the colony
I hear the crunch of the bush as someone approaches
I feel the termites crawling all over my hand
I smell the leaves of trees as the scent carries on the wind
I taste the sourness of bugs as I eat them for tea
Camp by Jaiden Priestly
One, two
We went in a canoe
Three, four
You should have seen what we saw
Five, six
For lunch we had a great mix
Seven, eight
The Year Four camp was great!
Year Four CBCC by Deaghlan Kealey
Open the gate,
School is great.
Play time is fun,
So eat your bun.
When you're done,
have some fun.
Camp is a ball,
So don't miss it all.
You'll know it all,
When you're in Year Four.
I'm in Year Four,
and I know it all.
When you get here,
You'll have a ball.
These poems and many other interesting items are on the Year 4 web
page. We attempt to keep lots of relevant photos and information on each
classes web page. Please take the time to have a look at your class
page.
