Date completed September 2011 The Sir C Duncan Rice library was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen<br />
Elizabeth II on the 24th of September 2012. Work began on the £57m<br />
building in 2009. The new facility, designed by Danish architect, schmidt<br />
hammer lassen, replaces the ageing Queen Mother Library.<br />
Prof Ian Diamond, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of<br />
Aberdeen, said: "This is an outstanding facility of which we can all be very<br />
proud. It will serve the needs and ambitions of our university, city and region<br />
for many decades to come."<br />
