HYPOTHYREOSIS – HYPOTHYROIDISM Cause: iodine deficiency in most cases Symptoms: Basal metabolic rate decreased (60% ), body temperature decreased Myxedema: impaired breakdown of hyaluronic acid, chondroitinsulphate, and mucopolysaccharides; these accumulate in the skin and bind fluid.
