Vacancy <strong>for</strong> experimental physicist/engineer in the Measurement<br />
St<strong>and</strong>ards Laboratory at its Lower Hutt site to work on an exciting<br />
range <strong>of</strong> projects in the electrical energy, quantum electrical<br />

It is an international leader in a number <strong>of</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> measurement<br />
including: measurement <strong>of</strong> fundamental constants; state <strong>of</strong> the art<br />

An opportunity exists to join our research <strong>and</strong> development team<br />

Key responsibilities:<br />
Delivering original research on assigned research <strong>and</strong> development<br />
projects in the electrical metrology area.<br />
Delivering quality services to clients <strong>and</strong> developing effective<br />
relationships with new <strong>and</strong> existing clients.<br />
Developing new areas <strong>of</strong> capability, including the science research<br />
programmes <strong>and</strong> business directions, <strong>and</strong> identifying new<br />
funding opportunities <strong>for</strong> electrical metrology.<br />
Contributing to the management <strong>and</strong> quality systems.<br />
The successful applicant will possess:<br />
PhD degree or similar experience in experimental Physics or<br />
Electrical/Electronic Engineering.<br />
Experience with electronic design preferred.<br />
Experience with programming <strong>and</strong> instrument control preferred.<br />
An attention to detail <strong>and</strong> a systematic <strong>and</strong> logical approach to<br />
problem solving.<br />
Ability to think strategically.<br />
Strong written <strong>and</strong> oral communication skills.<br />
Strong interpersonal skills <strong>and</strong> leadership ability.<br />

Scientist Autonomous Systems<br />
Devonport Naval Base<br />
The Defence Technology Agency (DTA), located at Devonport<br />
Naval Base, Auckl<strong>and</strong>, is the technological research <strong>and</strong> development<br />
agency <strong>of</strong> the New Zeal<strong>and</strong> Defence Force <strong>and</strong> supports<br />
the operations <strong>of</strong> the Royal New Zeal<strong>and</strong> Navy, Royal New<br />
Zeal<strong>and</strong> Air Force, <strong>and</strong> the New Zeal<strong>and</strong> Army.<br />
DTA has a vacancy <strong>for</strong> a scientist or engineer to undertake independent<br />
research in the area <strong>of</strong> autonomous systems.<br />
The Autonomous Systems Section focuses on the application <strong>of</strong><br />
mathematical techniques to artificial intelligence, robotics <strong>and</strong><br />
autonomy. You will become part <strong>of</strong> a team working on a range<br />
<strong>of</strong> tasks in the area <strong>of</strong> autonomous systems research.<br />
You should possess an appropriate tertiary qualification as well<br />
as the following skills:<br />
· Expertise in the development <strong>of</strong> optimal methods<br />
<strong>for</strong> the operation <strong>of</strong> autonomous vehicles<br />
· Knowledge <strong>of</strong> algorithmic development <strong>for</strong> failure<br />
prevention<br />
· Experience in the application <strong>of</strong> artificial intelligence<br />
techniques to high level autonomy<br />
· Ability to grow a theoretical knowledge base<br />
underpinning autonomous systems<br />
In addition, you will have excellent written <strong>and</strong> verbal communication<br />
skills. This position requires an adaptable, flexible approach<br />
to workflow <strong>and</strong> project management, <strong>and</strong> the ability to<br />
work autonomously within a team environment.<br />
Salary Range: $50,000 - $ 75,000.<br />
