CLASSIFIED NOTICES 7 7 STUDENT LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES The SLSS Research Seminars (covering topics such as Research Proposals, Ethical Approval, Lit Reviews, Academic Integrity, Advanced Database Searches, Qualitative Research, Managing your Studies, and Applying for Funding) will begin again in the first weeks of Trimester 2. Please email deborah.laurs@vuw.ac.nz if there are any other topics you'd like covered. 'Dropin' writing network: every Tuesday, 12 1pm, in KK001. An informal opportunity to meet with other students to discuss your workinprogress. Online Forum: As part of the development of the PostgradLife website, focus groups clearly identified the desire for an online forum where postgrads could 'talk' to each other about their experiences. Thanks to MyVictoria, this is now possible. Check it out: PostgradLife, accessed via the Groups tab, under 'Social', offers 'chat' possibilities as well as a noticeboard but only if people use it! Services offered by SLSS: for postgraduate speakers of other languages: conversation groups, academic speaking & writing workshops, and grammar troubleshooting sessions; for all postgraduate students: 1to1 appointments at Kelburn and Pipitea (Ph 463 5999); online and hardcopy resources on thesis writing & research skills. RXP is a 250,000 pounds (UK) initiative that provides individual researchers with awards covering the travel and living costs in order to help them form new scientific collaborations and contacts through exchange visits. The research link can be in any area of science, engineering and technology, including social sciences and humanities. The award is open to early stage researchers. This means applicants must have: Either obtained a doctoral qualification or be within twelve months of obtaining one. No more than two years full tenure in a university or research institute No more than six years overall active researcher experience. The maximum per award is 5,000 pounds (UK). More than one researcher from the same research group can apply for this award, but each must submit a separate application. APPLICATION PROCEDURES: The closing date for applications is 2 June 2007.
