LIFESPAN DEVELOPMENT
by Sharleen L. Kato, ©2014 Suggested Grade Levels 9–12
Lifespan Development is designed to help your students understand
human growth and development across the lifespan. The contents of this
text show that even though not all people are alike, they do go through
similar stages of development. Young children learn to walk, talk, spell,
jump, and tell jokes. Teens learn to become more independent. Adults
take on more responsibilities for themselves and others. Throughout the
lifespan, people continue to develop and change physically, cognitively,
socially, and emotionally. The text also includes strategies that promote
lifespan health and wellness.
• Students will learn about the developmental theories of Erikson, Piaget,
Vygotsky, Kohlberg, and beyond.
• A unit is dedicated to career preparation and opportunities that address
career paths in human services and in education and training.
• Special features throughout the text cover cultural diversity, health, and
safety. Case studies are also included in each chapter.
INTERIOR DESIGN
by Stephanie Clemons, ©2014 Suggested Grade Levels 10–C
Interior Design captures student interest in a profession that is never static
or predictable because its focus is people. The text emphasizes that the field
of interior design is filled with creative excitement and innovative beauty.
Beginning with why the profession is valuable, the text then walks students
through the historical roots of the profession, business practices, career
specializations, and educational requirements.
This teaching package helps students examine and apply fundamental
skills of the design process and key supporting factors—including the
elements and principles of design; color and light; historical influences
(including interior/furniture styles and exterior architectural styles); and the
human impact of design (sustainability, universal design, aging-in-place,
anthropometrics, proxemics, and ergonomics).
In addition, students will put knowledge into practice as they learn the
“whys” and “hows” of: selecting interior materials, furnishings, and accessories;
visual communications including how to create drawings, renderings, and
models; commercial interior design applications; residential interior design
applications; applying design skills to an interior design project; and a focus
on career skills.
PRINCIPLES OF FOOD
SCIENCE
by Janet D. Ward, ©2013, 3rd Edition Suggested Grade Levels 9–C
Principles of Food Science incorporates science concepts into a laboriented
foods class. This text shows how the laws of science are at work in
foods prepared at home and by the food industry. Each chapter includes
engaging features, including NEW Going Green environmental updates
and Science Matters articles. Other features focus on areas such as current
research, technology, and nutrition news. Through lab experiments in
the text and Lab Manual, students will practice scientific and sensory
evaluation of foods. They will discover how nutrients and other food
components illustrate basic chemistry concepts. Additionally, they will
examine the positive and negative impacts of microorganisms on the
food supply. Students will also explore the variety of careers available to
graduates with a food science background.
• Students learn the scientific method and how to evaluate scientific studies.
and the various developmental stages of children through teens.
• Unit 3, The School, describes the early history of education in America, modern
history of education, and current aspects of schools, including federal, state,
and local responsibilities.
Preparing for Life and Career gives students the tools they need to
develop skills they can use throughout their lives and careers. Teens are
challenged to learn how to develop and keep successful relationships,
be a good family member, and contribute to their community. The
responsibilities of child care, clothing care, and home maintenance—and
how to handle them—are also presented.
• Organized into 27 chapters presented as short, easy-to-read sections.
• New chapter is devoted to transportation options.
• Includes many new photos and charts to stimulate interest in learning
more.
• Interesting questions are posed throughout the text to encourage critical
thinking and problem solving.
• Common Core activities encourage the mastery of skills needed for
college and career readiness. Other chapter activities promote Journal
Writing opportunities, Technology applications, and FCCLA participation.
