Respite <strong>ca</strong>re offered in a home-like environment * service to a maximum of 6 people at any one<br />
time * offers 1-2wk stay * staffed 24hrs/day, 7days/wk * for people with a memory loss * not<br />
suitable for those who have complex medi<strong>ca</strong>l needs or for those who require lifting *<br />
wheelchair accessible, however person must be able to bear weight * classed as a group home<br />
Provides counselling to individuals and families who are coping with the Alzheimer’s and<br />
related dementias. This centre provides appropriate referrals to services available in the<br />
community. Oral and written information is provided on all issues relating to the disease<br />
including <strong>ca</strong>regiver coping, communi<strong>ca</strong>tor guidelines, and understanding behaviours.<br />
Counselling is available over the phone, in the office or in your home.<br />

Public Edu<strong>ca</strong>tion Coordinators offer dementia specific edu<strong>ca</strong>tion to professionals who work<br />
with people who have dementia. Programs are flexible and geared toward the learning needs<br />
of different groups including personal support workers, activationists, nursing, dietary and<br />
housekeeping staff, students, volunteers, and visitors. Topics include an overview of AD,<br />
communi<strong>ca</strong>ting with people who have ADRD, responding to responsive behaviours, working<br />
with families, an aging simulation, activities of daily living, and therapeutic activities.<br />
Coordinators are trained in the Gentle Persuasive Approach, Advance Care Planning, and U-<br />
First. They <strong>ca</strong>n also modify and develop programs as requested.<br />
