What's New at the Nursery . . . The Children & Family Services Authority partners with Crisis Nursery to open fourth site: Crisis Nursery West Crisis Nursery West Nursery and Outreach Center opened on February 6, 2006, thanks to The Children & Family Services Authority of St. Charles County. Thank you to St. Joseph Health Center, who is graciously supplying meals and physicals for the children. We also send out a HUGE thank you to all of the volunteers who spent MANY hours renovating the facility. It is beautiful! The very first night Crisis Nursery West was full with children needing a safe haven. Crisis Nursery West will provide emergency care for over 500 children a year and follow-up support services to families. Crisis Nursery Hosts National Conference On April 7, 2006, the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery will host "Real Heroes" a conference by Dave Pelzer. This highly emotional presentation pays tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to making a difference in the life of a child. Dave is recognized as one of the nation’s most effective and respected communicators. He travels throughout the world promoting inspiration and resilience. He has garnered commendations from Presidents’ Reagan, Bush and Clinton. In 1994 he was the only American who received The Outstanding Young Person of the World Award. Dave has experienced a truly extraordinary life. He nearly died several times by the hands of his mentally disturbed alcoholic mother. Years later it was determined that Dave’s case was identified as one of the most gruesome and extreme cases of child abuse in California ’s history. At age 12, Dave was finally rescued and placed in a series of foster homes until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 18. Even with all that against him, Dave was determined to better himself - no matter what the odds. Co-chairs, Tom Morrell, Bill Shaner and Peter Wazlawek are putting together a fabulous tournament, which is close to being sold-out! Designed by PB Dye, Old Hickory Golf Club’s course is a golfer’s dream! To even the most novice golfers, playing Old Hickory is a memorable experience that you are sure to treasure. The course has many distinguishing and unique features, including an island green. You will be astounded and appreciative of the peacefulness and serenity of the setting at Old Hickory. Anheuser Busch and Emerson are major sponsors of this 4-person scramble which begins at 11:30 with a fabulous lunch donated by Hardee's and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.. 2 Chief Schulte and Captain Kelley of the O'Fallon Police Department visit Crisis Nursery St. Charles. Advisory Board members' Chris Chadwick, Chief Joe Mokwa and Chair, Bill Siedhoff with Peggy Barnhart from Senator Jim Talent's office, attending the Crisis Nursery Media Briefing to raise awareness of child abuse prevention and the Crisis Nursery's services tot he community. The Crisis Nursery was presented with the #1 Agency Award from the United Way for excelling in tours and presentations during its 2005 Campaign.
