The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Nursery</strong> has beena busy place this past year, highlights include:◆ Providing a safe haven for 3,961 children;◆ Providing 118% increase in the number <strong>of</strong> home and community visits withfamilies;◆ Partnering with the Deaconess Foundation to build Saint <strong>Louis</strong> <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Nursery</strong>capacity as we continue to increase our services to children and families;◆ The <strong>St</strong>ay-At-Home Parent program provided intensive home-based services toover 50 families each month, helping infants and toddlers succeeddevelopmentally;◆ <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Nursery</strong> Family Support staff are partnering with the Christian ActivityCenter in East <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Louis</strong> to provide community-based services to families withyoung children;Did you know that:◆ 15 families in crisis reach out to the<strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Nursery</strong> for help - every day;◆ over 10 children receive a developmentalassessment - every day;◆ volunteers provide more than 57hours <strong>of</strong> nurturing care - every day!Photos by Esther <strong>St</strong>rauss Smoller & Dennis O'MalleyPhotos by Dennis OʼMalleyÐ

Our Families and Children!Tonia called requesting care for her three children, ages five, seven, and nine. The familyhad been homeless for months and had spent the last 2 weeks living in a friends car. Theweather was hot and Tonia was feeling horrible about having the children in the car. Shehad tried to call several homeless shelters and all were full. The <strong>Crisis</strong> <strong>Nursery</strong> brought thethree children into safety and during their stay, staff was able to call shelters on Tonia’sbehalf to advocate for the family. They were accepted into a longer-term shelter wherethey were out <strong>of</strong> the harsh weather conditions and Tonia could work on finding permanenthousing.. . . Without missing abeat two volunteers openedthe dress-up closet andstarted a parade with childrenin all kinds <strong>of</strong> costumes.This caused a delightful calmand a reassurance that thisplace is ok and fun.
