HMG WORKHORSES HARD AT WORK
Tug Scout journeys from Houston to Illinois
On November 4, 2011 at 1000 hours, the Tug Scout and her two barges, the Vijay Sea
and Takeuchi Sea, departed from the HMG fleet in Houston, Texas for the Exxon-Mobil
Marine Facility in Joliet, Illinois.
During the voyage, the tug and barge combo traveled 1,734
nautical miles, negotiated 11 lockes, and were in five different
waterways. The crew relates it was an exciting trip, and listening
to their stories, some excellent boat skills were definitely used
navigating the challenging waterways.
Kelly Moore, Harley Marine Barge Operations Supervisor, met
the Scout and the two barges at the Exxon-Mobil terminal on
November 22, 2011 at 1200 hours. “The barges looked majestic
coming up the Illinois River proudly flying the HMS flag and colors,”
reports Kelly.
The two barges will be loading full loads of cargo, and then
heading back down river following their discharge orders.
We truly appreciated the great team effort by the Scout’s crew,
getting the barges to their destination safely. Once again it shows
the professionalism of our HMS teammates, and how HMS
continues to be a dominating force in the petroleum transportation
industry.
