Business Case

The following key objectives have been set for this development:
4.1 Int e g ra t ed S e rvi c e
This project will deliver an integrated Tier 4 inpatient service, operating from a single site,
realising all the benefits outlined in the case for change.
4.2 Hi gh Qu al i t y, S a fe S e rvi ce s
By achieving the above, this development will support the continued delivery of high quality
services that are more clinically robust and safer.
Service delivery will be in line with the national service specifications for each unit and
ensure delivery of safe, effective services based on best evidence and ensuring a positive
patient and family experience.
Integration of the entire service will enhance the delivery of more clinically robust and safer
services. A number of factors which support this are:

Co-location of all services would ensure best use of the entire workforce and
particularly the nursing and medical workforce across the unit. Previous Ocean ward
staff would be integrated into the units using their skills and expertise with younger
children and adolescents and all units would have immediate access to additional
support in a crisis or emergency situation.
Co-location of all units would make improved use of the MDT without the need for
associated travel time and split site working This will therefore increase the clinical
time spent on the wards and available to young people and their families
All senior management support would be located on one site giving additional
support to all the units and the workforce for example Head of Nursing, CNS for Risk
Management and Tier 4 Service Manager
More cross-unit training and rotation opportunities for staff can be implemented
Co-location of services would support more cross-unit training and rotation
opportunities for all staff; and
Incidents could be reviewed in a more timely and efficient manner.
4.3 F i t fo r Pu rp os e / F l e x i bl e Ac co mm od ati on
The CAMHS new hospital development will enable the Trust to deliver services from a
modern estate fit for purpose which provides single bedroom accommodation whilst
embracing new models of service provision.
This will enable the service to be more responsive to the current demand profile of young
people presenting for admission with higher acuity needs and more challenging behaviour. In
addition the service will not be restricted in terms of gender presentation and the ratio of
boys and girls as with current dormitory accommodation.
