Ebb&Flow Labor Day weekend marks the traditional end of summer, but that doesn’t mean fun at the Rivah has to stop. The river and creek waters are still warm enough for swimming and boating and the fish are still biting. There’s still time to enjoy a weekend day trip to Gloucester Point, where reporter Tom Chillemi found lots of things to do. There’s a fishing pier, public beach, marine science museum and fresh local seafood offered at several restaurants. Although the workshops are over, visitors can stop by the Deltaville Maritime Museum or the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum to learn about family boatbuilding and register for next year’s classes. Reporter Shannon Rice captured all the fun involved in building a family skiff and taking it from kit to water. Once a boatbuilder, always a boatbuilder, according to reporter Larry Chowning. He interviewed several former boatbuilders who now spend their free time making models. As always, we encourage you to use our extensive calendar of events to find live music venues, festivals, craft fairs and farmers’ markets across the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
