Trentino di Cultura, and the municipal libraries of Trento and Rovereto. All the
holdings at the Library of the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy have been
catalogued in the CBT database, although large part of pre-1984 publications in
the province’s libraries are still card-catalogued.
Description and services
STRUCTURE: Located on the ground floor of the Faculty building is the
consultation and loans service. The main room contains the circulation counter,
the catalogues, and a station for CD-Rom consultation, while two reading rooms
house reference works and the current year’s periodicals. Besides handling
loans and requests for materials, the library staff are available for information
and assistance. A separate office provides specialist assistance with on-line
bibliographic searches.
The basement contains the library’s stock of books and periodicals, as well as a
room for users who require direct access to the shelves (lecturers, graduands,
authorized users) and a CD-Rom consultation station.
HOLDINGS: The Arts and Philosophy Library at present contains around
110,000 books and 1,250 periodicals. Its stock constantly increases (around
5000 new titles per year) to meet the Faculty’s research and teaching needs.
Acquisitions are selected by faculty members and library staff, although all users
may make suggestions, which are given due consideration. While all materials
can be consulted on the library premises, some are not available for loan (texts
on examination syllabuses, rare or valuable works, frequently consulted items,
CD-Roms)
ORDINARY LOANS: Library loan cards are issued by any library in the province
of Trento belonging to the CBT. They entitle their holders to take out loans from
all the libraries in the consortium in accordance with their regulations. Those of
the University Library allow a maximum of 10 items to be borrowed by first-andsecond-year
students and external users, and 20 items by third-year students
and graduands. The maximum duration of a loan is 30 days, extendable to 60
days. A fine of € 5,00 is charged for each item not returned within the loan time
limit. The loans service terminates half an hour before the library closes.
INTER-LIBRARY LOANS: These can be requested at the circulation desk,
provided they concern bibliographic materials available from the CBT. In other
