Explore Ross Farm, New Ross
Plan to spend at least a half day at this working farm
museum depicting 150 years of Nova Scotia farming. See
beautiful Canadian horses, strong and hard working oxen,
Berkshire Pigs, Cotswold and Southdown Sheep and
various heritage breeds of poultry. Try your hand at milking
a cow, ride in a horse and cart in the summer or enjoy an
old-fashioned sleigh ride in the winter, watch a blacksmith
at work and taste home-made candies in the old kitchen.
There are hiking trails around the property and a lovely
lakeside picnic spot. (39 km / 30 minutes from Mahone
Bay ) Tel: 877-689-2210 www.rossfarm.novascotia.ca.
Ride the LaHave River cable ferry & take a drive on Crescent Beach
Drive aboard the Brady E. Himmelman cable car ferry and make your way across
the La Have River. Just past the off-loading area in the village of LaHave you will fi nd
the La Have Bakery cafe (Hwy 331, LaHave 902-688-2908). This is the perfect spot
to enjoy a leisurely lunch and amazing baked goods. While you are there you can
browse the art gallery co-op downstairs. Westcote Bell Pottery (902-693-2042), one
of our favorite studios is close by. From there head west towards Crescent Beach
where you can drive your car on to the beach. The sunsets are breathtaking here.
Discover two great museums in the area: LaHave Islands Marine Museum (100
LaHave Islands Rd.) where you can learn about the LaHave Islands and the history
of the in-shore fi sheries, and Fort Point Museum & Lighthouse (100 Fort Point Rd)
which is a National Historic Site. After a day of exploring drive back to Mahone Bay
via Bridgewater or take the ferry back. (32 km/ 30 minutes from Mahone Bay)
