Members of the Board<br />

The <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Local</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>District</strong> Board is chaired by the Hon. Ron Phillips and supported by eight Board Members who<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g a wealth of experience and local knowledge to the management of our LHD.<br />

Dr Barry R Catchlove<br />

Dr Barry Catchlove has more than 40 years experience <strong>in</strong> healthcare, cover<strong>in</strong>g a range of cl<strong>in</strong>ical,<br />

medical adm<strong>in</strong>istration and board appo<strong>in</strong>tments. He is a Fellow of the Senate, <strong>Sydney</strong> University,<br />

Chair of the Senate’s Safety and Risk Management Committee and a Member of the Nom<strong>in</strong>ations<br />

Committee. He was appo<strong>in</strong>ted National President of the Australian Hospital Association and<br />

Chairman of the Australian Council of <strong>Health</strong>care Standards.<br />

Dr John Daniels<br />

Dr John Daniels is the Director of <strong>Health</strong> Services and Research at the Aborig<strong>in</strong>al Medical<br />

Service <strong>in</strong> Redfern. Dr Daniels has worked <strong>in</strong> Aborig<strong>in</strong>al health as a cl<strong>in</strong>ician, adm<strong>in</strong>istrator and<br />

researcher for 30 years. He has held senior roles <strong>in</strong> the <strong>NSW</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Department and has a strong<br />

commitment to equity, culturally relevant service delivery and appropriate resource allocation<br />

with<strong>in</strong> the public health sector.<br />

Trevor Danos<br />

Trevor Danos has been a commercial lawyer for more than 30 years and has a focus on bank<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ance, as well as government contract<strong>in</strong>g and government procurement. Mr Danos holds several<br />

government bus<strong>in</strong>ess enterprise directorships, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and TransGrid.<br />

Mr Danos has a strong <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> science and is the immediate past President of the Science Foundation<br />

for Physics, <strong>Sydney</strong> University, Honorary Adviser (former Deputy Chair) to the Human Research<br />

Ethics Committee, <strong>Sydney</strong> University and Member of the Cooperative Research Centres Committee.<br />

Dr Thomas Karplus<br />

Dr Thomas Karplus is a Senior Staff Specialist <strong>in</strong> Vascular Medic<strong>in</strong>e for the <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Local</strong> <strong>Health</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong> and also an Honorary Visit<strong>in</strong>g Medical Practitioner <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Sydney</strong> Children’s Hospitals<br />

Network. Dr Karplus is Australasian Secretary of the International Union of Angiology and State<br />

Secretary of the <strong>NSW</strong> branch of the Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation (ASMOF).<br />

Previously he was Chair of the Medical Staff Council at Concord Hospital and Chair of the Medical<br />

Staff Executive Council at <strong>Sydney</strong> South West Area <strong>Health</strong> Service.<br />
