EMIRATES SKYCARGO STARTS FREIGHTER SERVICE
TO FAR EAST AND AUSTRALIA
Emirates SkyCargo recently launched the service on its new Far East
and Australasia freighter route. The weekly service, operated by its new
Boeing 777 Freighter, is offering freight capacity of 103 tonne.
Emirates SkayCargo’s new flights will fly Dubai-Singapore-Sydney-
Hong Kong-Dubai, providing the key trading points with additional
connectivity to Emirates’ Dubai hub, which can link businesses to the
114 destinations on the carrier’s network. Commenting on the new
service, Hiran Perera, Emirates’ SVP Cargo Planning & Freighters, said,
“This new route not only bolsters capacity, it provides our customers
with more options and increased trade opportunities.” Prior to the
new service Emirates was carrying cargo in the belly-hold of 126

passenger flights a week between Dubai
and Australia, as well 28 Hong Kong
flights and 42 Singapore flights. “The
new freighter – with a wide main deck
door – will increase our ability to carry
oversized shipments,” added Perera.
“This takes our import capacity to
Australia to 1370 tonnes per week and
in these uncertain economic conditions, it
is further a testament of our commitment
to facilitating international trade for
businesses in the region,” he asserted.
The inaugural flight – which carried
100 tonnes of cargo, including medical
equipment, diagnostics, spare parts,
textiles and clothing - was met by
Greg Johnson, Emirates’ Cargo
Manager Australia and Alex Barkway, Emirates’ Cargo Manager New
South Wales.
According to Johnson, the addition of a dedicated freighter service is a
major milestone in Emirates SkyCargo’s growth in Australia and offers
new possibilities for expansion into other areas of air cargo transport.
“With the high Australian dollar driving up imports, this new flight will
also provide us with much needed additional capacity into the market,”
he said. EK9920 will depart Dubai every Sunday at 20:35 and touch
down in Singapore at 07:55 the following day. The B777F will then
depart at 09:00 and complete its outbound journey at 18:30 when it
touches down at Sydney International Airport.
SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS CARGO’S NEW INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS
Recently, South African Airways Cargo (SAAC) has launched its new freighter services on African routes and added wide bodied aircraft to
SAO & EZE as hub into South America. The airline was consistently exploring the new routes over the past few months to get additional routes
secured for our B737F into Africa. According to the airlines sources, the airline’s growth this year was its vision statement, ‘Bringing Africa to
the world and the world to Africa.’ SAAC will have a phase approach for the routes and will kick off with Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and Entebe
(Uganda), with an additional flight to Maputo Mozambique on Fridays.
The above routes will be phase I, and more services to follow on the phase II routes. Currently, SAAC will be operating freighter services JNB-
BLZ/DAR/EBB/HRE/FIH/LAD/LUN/MPM and can operate adhock freighters on customers demand ex JNB.
SAAC has upgraded our capacity ex JNB – FIH/WDH route, and operating A-346 on JNB-GRU daily to SAO PAULO/Guraulhous connecting
to South America using interline or trucking services to CWB/POA/BHZ/BSB/RIO/FOR/NAT/MAO/JOI/NVT/SSA/RIO/REC/VCP, also
have thrice a week Operations to EZE in Argentina and can connect BOG/LIM/SCL/CCS/MVD/ASU/MEX, etc using interline capacity.
