tracking of the shipment, greater accuracy,
increased security, etc.
E-freight initiative has been taken up
as a high priority by airlines globally. IATA
has estimated that about $4.9 billion of
industry savings could be generated and
about 7,800 tonnes of paper documents
eliminated annually using the e-freight

Mission to achieve a truly
green supply chain
Supporting IATA’s e-freight initiative, Emirates
SkyCargo recently launched the service in India
and aims to soon become 100 per cent e-freight
operator. Keki Patel, Cargo Manager – India and
Nepal, Emirates spoke about future plans. Anita Jain

with DHL Global to propel its e-freight
initiative across its network including
India. Currently, the e-freight service is
available in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata
and Bengaluru with additional six cities
soon to be added.
With this, the airline is currently handling
5 per cent of its total cargo in e-freight
system from India. “Through our e-freight
service, our partners have experienced
an enhanced booking experience with
more reliability, efficiency, cost and time
saving,” informed Patel. However, to fasten

in Asia and USA, currently Finnair Cargo provides freighter service to
and from Frankfurt, Hong Kong, New York, Seoul and Shanghai.
