This beautiful musical painting, one of a pair acquired by us from a
prominent collection, is of outstanding quality. It is very choice and
well preserved in its original condition ... and this is quite unusual.
The oil painting and frame measure 2'5" high, 3' wide, and 7" deep.
The scene is of a winding alpine road in a rural district, a scene not
unlike those to be found in some of the rural cantons of Switzerland
today. The combination of mou'ntaills, forested ridges and, in the
foreground, a complex of buildings, is very well done. Adding to the
interest is a real watch which is incorporated into a prominent
minaret-like tower. \ musical mechanism is concealed in the back uf
the painting and operates at intervals.
