This is a choice and attractive Kalliope disc box of the 9 5/8" disc
size. Measurements are 13" wide by 13" deep by 1'4" high. It plays
well and has a fine tone.
The underside of the lid has a colorful lithograph with musical muses
and the KALLIOPE name in ornate letters. With the box we obtained
just one disc, "Silent Night," and that one goes with it. If you buy the

NICE KALLIOPE MUSIC BOX
Small Kalliope box with a resonant and beautiful tone. Uses 7" discs,
a half dozen of which go with it. Overall measurements are lOW' wide,
10" deep, and 14" high (lid open). The Kalliope plays very well and is a
choice instrument in all respects. Like other smaller Kalliopes the
winding spindle and the center spindle are one' and the same (note

BRILLIANT KALLIOPE BOX WITH BELLS
Kalliope boxes are usually outstanding for tht'ir tonal quality, The
present example is a good illustration of this. It has a 914" disc which
plays a music comb and six tuned bells. However, if you were to close
your eyes so as not to see the disc you would agree that it sounds like
the music of a IS" or larger type!

LARGE KALLIOPE BOX WITH BELLS
Kalliope music boxes are well built, possess an exceptional tonal
quality, and are favorites with advanced collectors. At one time the
Kalliope firm must have been very large (their circa 1900
adverti&ements showed a multi-stored building with "KALLIOPE"
emblazoned across the top - although, perhaps typically, this might
have been wishful thinking on the part of the advertising department,
and perhaps Kalliope occupied just a small portion of the building).
One thing is certain: as a breed, Kalliope boxes are fairly scarce,
although not of prohibitive rarity, today. This is a shame, for the world
of collection could use more instruments like this one!
The Kalliope offered here is a particularly nice one. It measures 3'3"
high, 2'5" wide, and 1'4" deep. It uses 20V." diameter discs, four of
which are with it. The instrument is equipped with six combs: four
musical combs and two combs to operate the twelve melodious bells.
The Kalliope has a lovely tone which is enhanced and reinforced by
the bells. This is a first class instrument; one of which you can be
justifiably proud. If you demand perfection, ask us to refinish it for
you (something that eventually should be done to all fine antique music
boxes). But, this is not necessary.
