Making waves: Ripple Project
builds groundswell of support
Sporadically mentioned
in national headlines is
the wave of philanthropy
and service sweeping the
country. Surfing the crest of
this wave is the Ripple Project.
Now is an exciting time for
Prescott College. With the
christening of the Crossroads
Center, the College is entering
into a new epoch of vibrant,
cohesive community and culture.
The Ripple Project is the
connective tissue to the rest of
the community—a life force
that invigorates our mission
and enriches our student body.
Two years ago, Prescott
College signed onto Campus
Compact, an organization of
900 colleges and universities
that recognize the civic duty of
higher education.
The Ripple Project was
launched as the official manifestation
of our affiliation with
Campus Compact, and affirms
14 TransitionsFall 2004
our mutual belief that through
civic participation and community
service we can build a
healthier, wealthier, and wiser
community.
As efforts to integrate concepts
of experientially oriented,
service-learning opportunities
and initiatives continue across
the curriculum and in our
everyday lives, the Ripple
Project serves as a working
model for the development of a
service-learning structure that
is consistent with and in support
of the mission of Prescott
College.
It is the sincere hope of the
Ripple Project that we can
form a cohesive network of volunteer
organizations that works
in concert to harness our
resources for the betterment of
our communities, while keeping
our finger on the pulse of
the national community
alliance of colleges and universities,
which are working for
change in their communities.
