y Steven Corey 2004: A year of ‘firsts’ for Prescott College Great things are happening at Prescott College. In the fiscal year 2004, which ended June 30, many “firsts” were recorded in the record books. Some of the College’s most notable accomplishments were made in the area of fund-raising and alumni relations. The fund-raising and financial milestones include: • Raised more than $1 million in the capital campaign • Received one of the largest gifts in its history ($500,000), • Exceeded the annual fund goal by 15 percent, • Completed the 2004 fiscal year with a net gain (four years in a row), • Generated more than $2.3 million in net income since 1999, • Grew the reserve fund by 114 percent since 2001, • Completion of the Crossroads Center is near (February 2005 Grand Opening Celebration planned). Since 2000 the College has successfully managed its financial resources to optimally serve its mission and build financial sustainability both in “good times” and times of stress. This is not possible without a collective vision and commitment by the College community as a whole. It is rewarding to know that the needed discipline and collective leadership from our faculty and administration is unwavering. In the area of alumni relations, Rachel Yoder ’01 has made remarkable progress. In fact, Yoder’s work is so impressive that she received the Outstanding New fund-raising Professional Award from the Association of fund-raising Professionals, Northern Arizona chapter (see page 41). Some of Yoder’s accomplish- 28 TransitionsFall 2004 ments include: • A 16 percent increase in donors over the last four years, • A 25 percent increase in the number of donors to the unrestricted fund, and • Yoder’s work with the alumni association, Website, electronic newsletter, and regional receptions has put the College in communication with close to 75 percent of its alumni. Not to be overlooked are the new administrative staff members who were attracted to Prescott College (see page 38). The ability to attract talent at this level is another testament to the good work being done here, and we are fortunate to have people with these capabilities and experiences joining the Prescott College team. Lastly, our next building project is already under way. The formal planning process for the renovation of Sam Hill into a dedicated visual arts center—another first for the College—is progressing. With so many great “firsts” happening for Prescott College, we are looking forward to the future and even greater things. 2004 Honor Roll Report The following pages recognize all donors who made gifts to Prescott College from July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. During that time, more than $190,000 in unrestricted annual fund gifts, in addition to $44,000 in restricted annual fund gifts and $40,000 toward the endowment, were raised through these generous gifts. In addition, more than $650,000 was raised during the 03/04 fiscal year for the Crossroads Center Campaign. Alumni donors are identified by the last year of their attendance or graduation shown after their names. Both current and past parents are identified with their student’s name shown in parentheses. Trustees of the College who served an active term during the 03/04 fiscal year are identified with a single asterisk (*). Faculty and staff members who have been employed at the College within the past fiscal year are identified with two asterisks (**). The names shown are as they appear in our records or as requested by the donor. Anonymity is honored upon request. Matching gifts, gifts of securities, designated gifts, restricted gifts, memorials, and payroll deductions have all been included in determining recognition levels. Turquoise and Gold Circle Representing the official colors of Prescott College as established by founding president Charles Franklin Parker, this circle recognizes donors who have made gifts of $10,000 or more. Donors who have made gifts between $5,000 and $9,999 are recognized in this circle. These mountains are sacred to the Navajo and Hopi nations. At 12,670 feet and snow-covered much of the year, Humphrey’s Peak is the highest point in Arizona and is easily seen from Prescott. This society recognizes donors who have made gifts between $2,500 and $4,999. The discovery of gold in the Bradshaws in the 1860s brought more than 1,600 prospectors to the area and established the first settlement in northern Arizona. This club recognizes donors who made gifts between $250 and $499.
