National FFA Convention
We recommend:
Agricultural Careers and Fields
1
Stress more industry involvement at the National Agricultural
Career Show, including exhibits involving precision farming,
floriculture, aquaculture and horticulture.
2. Have the FFA hold a livestock show or rodeo, open to FFA
members and hold a concert at Louisville.
3. Work with the area businesses to arrange career shadowing
activities during the convention.
4. Allow FFA members to explore Career Development Events at the
convention after they are held.
5. Extend career show hours through Saturday.
Pride in the FFA and Role Modeling
1. Clarification of the Code of Ethics in the Official FFA Manual to
serve as a more effective guideline regarding official dress.
2. Create a definition of the FFA for publication to enhance
members knowledge of the organization.
3. Develop workshops focusing on creating role models and pride in
the FFA.
4. Create a Code of Ethics that recommends proper appearance and
actions for FFA members and advisors at FFA activities, especially
national convention.
Marketing and Promotion
1
Increase correspondence between FFA members and sponsors by
inviting them to the national FFA convention and showing
gratitude by providing the FFA members with thank you notes to
send to the sponsors.
2. Send mass invitations to major media inviting them to attend a
"Media Day" focused on the national FFA convention.
3. Have the FFA air a commercial on national prime-time television
and in a national magazine including a week-long special on
"Channel I."
4. Create a list of successful or famous FFA alumni.
5. Make available lists of the existing discount rates to FFA members
traveling to national convention, creative fundraisers and more
detailed maps of the national convention.
Member of the Future
1. To enlarge the number of food outlets and add ways to better
organize the flow of students through the food court.
2. Provide an informational packet to high school chapter presi-
dents, advisors, faculty and administrators informing them of the
convention activities and the benefits from attending.
3. Create a survey to put in FFA New Horizons to evaluate the
national convention.
4. Start a scholarship program for FFA members to attend the
national convention.
5. Create a video contest between states that includes personal
examples of students in action experiencing national convention
to be used promotionally for advisors, sponsors and members.
6. Post signs on each delegate chair stating state and delegate name
on each chair to inform the national courtesy corps of delegate
seating.

National FFA convention offers many leadership and personal
development opportunities for those who attend. Some FFA members,
like Mark Smith, even meet new friends and establish relationships
that last a lifetime (or as long as the "sticky" holds out).
