BUILT TO LAST
THERE’S A SAYING, “worth its
weight in gold,” that is used
when someone is explaining
the worthiness and merit of a
tangible item. In other words,
the equipment is built to last and
holds up well in the marketplace.
That is true of the quality
workmanship that goes into each
piece of Astec equipment, which in
turn holds the resale value.
Astec Used Equipment Manager
Joe Clancy shared: “Astec
equipment is known to cost less to
run and maintain when compared
to other plants because we use
substantial components that stand
up to heavy use.”
Clancy continued: “The Astec
brand is known for superior
equipment with tough
construction that stands the test
of time. Plants depreciate 15 to
20 percent the first year and then
hold that value, so plants that are
10 years old often sell for 75 to 80
percent of the original sale price.
For asphalt contractors seeking
Astec equipment
holds resale value
solid construction with the ability
to upgrade and retrofit with new
technology, Astec is the equipment
of choice. Most Astec plants do
not stay long on the market.”
Recent Sale Transactions
According to Clancy, there is
a 1999 asphalt plant currently
for sale listed at $1,425,000,
originally priced at $3.2 million. A
reconditioned 1996 asphalt plant
sold for $1.2 million; original
price was $1.5 million. At a recent
auction in Mexico, a 1995 asphalt
plant sold for $775,000.
The Astec Difference
When Clancy was asked what
sets Astec apart, what’s the Astec
difference, he explained two
items: service and equipment
quality.
“The Astec Service Department
is superior. When an asphalt
producer is experiencing an
issue, Astec is one call away. The
problem is resolved either on the
phone or with a service technician
on-site. The goal is to minimize
downtime. Astec has 24-hour
customer service on the phone.
A live person takes the call; there
is not an automated service. To
take customer service to the next
level, Astec publishes a directory
which contains everyone’s home
and mobile number, along with the
main numbers to reach the various
divisions within the company.”
“Astec employees have extensive
experience and expertise to assist
customers. The Astec advanced
customer schools share that
knowledge with plant operators. So
when a problem arises in the field,
the plant operator and the Astec
service technician can troubleshoot
on the phone. There is a mutual
and beneficial relationship
established from purchase to
training, through customer service
and upgrading/retrofitting with
advances in technology.”
“The second main attribute
of the Astec difference is the
quality of the equipment. Rugged
construction and the latest
technology such as the Double
Barrel ® create plants designed
to work with great uptime. The
consistently high resale value of
the Astec equipment is directly
related to the manufacturing
process. It’s built to last.”
Used Astec Equipment
January through May is the buying
season for those in the northern
states as contractors get ready to
get into business. The planning
starts now and finding and
purchasing used Astec equipment
is a way to maximize funds. The
plants can be refurbished or
retrofitted to meet the product
specifications.
Astec equipment is an
investment.
