Pchum Ben is observed as a three-day holiday so that Cambodian people are able to<br />
perform Pchum Ben tradition earnestly. During Pchum Ben, people usually visit the<br />
temple and offer food to Buddhist monks alternately in the hope that the offerings<br />
will benefit their deceased ancestors indirectly.<br />
The day is a time when many Cambodians pay their respects to deceased<br />
relatives. Cambodians go to the pagoda every year to honor this<br />
tradition. It is refreshing to see that, although many aspects of the<br />
Khmer culture were lost during the Regime, the Khmers<br />
have managed to maintain their religious devotion<br />
and their family-centered way of life.
