<strong>The</strong> Center for Nonpr<strong>of</strong>it and Public Leadership<br />
prepares leaders with the practical business skills to<br />
found, lead, manage and govern nonpr<strong>of</strong>it and public<br />
organizations for the public good. <strong>The</strong> Center <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />
robust series <strong>of</strong> courses taught by a distinguished<br />
faculty <strong>of</strong> practitioners, researchers and established<br />
leaders in the field. It also <strong>of</strong>fers students an array <strong>of</strong><br />
hands-on field work opportunities that connect<br />
students with hundreds <strong>of</strong> nonpr<strong>of</strong>it leaders and<br />
organizations.<br />

• <strong>Berkeley</strong> Board Fellows program places over 60<br />
students on over 50 local nonpr<strong>of</strong>it boards each<br />
year to serve the community and develop future<br />
board leaders.<br />
• Social Sector Solutions or S3, deploys consultant<br />
teams <strong>of</strong> students with coaches from McKinsey &<br />
Company, to work with select nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations<br />
on high-impact, entrepreneurial ventures.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> Oakland Small Schools Residency engages<br />
Haas students in innovative education reform<br />
through a hands-on residency with a small school<br />
in Oakland.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> Education Leadership Case Competition, brings<br />
together teams from top business schools from<br />
across the country to present solutions to imminent<br />
education issues.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> Center hosts an Annual Public Leadership<br />
Dinner for over 250 alumni, students and nonpr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
leaders.<br />
• Haas for Students Fund is a student-driven matching<br />
fund in which Haas students donate a day <strong>of</strong> pay to<br />
support the career choices <strong>of</strong> their classmates who<br />
intern in the nonpr<strong>of</strong>it or public sectors.<br />
• Haas Loan Repayment Assistance Program is<br />
designed to provide financial support to recent graduates<br />
employed in the nonpr<strong>of</strong>it or public sectors.<br />
Director and Adjunct Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Nora Silver brings over<br />
30 years <strong>of</strong> leadership experience in the nonpr<strong>of</strong>it and<br />
public sectors. <strong>The</strong> Faculty Research Director is<br />
James Lincoln.<br />
As a <strong>Berkeley</strong> <strong>MBA</strong> student, you have the option to earn<br />
a certificate in one <strong>of</strong> five areas <strong>of</strong> study. <strong>The</strong>se certificates<br />
supplement the <strong>MBA</strong> degree and do not require a separate application. <strong>The</strong>y<br />
are earned after you have completed a designated group <strong>of</strong> courses and<br />
special projects.<br />
Certificate in Entrepreneurship<br />
Leveraging the Haas School’s proximity to Silicon Valley, this program<br />
integrates classroom and extracurricular activities. In addition to course<br />
requirements, you gain field experience either through an internship with a<br />
local entrepreneurial operation, or by completing a project that integrates<br />
fundamental business skills with a marketing or business plan for a venture<br />
<strong>of</strong> your own design.<br />
Certificate in Global Management<br />
This certificate program allows you to demonstrate pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in the theory<br />
and application <strong>of</strong> global business and management principles. Requirements<br />
for the certificate fall into three areas: overseas experience; courses with<br />
international content; and language requirement.<br />
Certificate in Health Management<br />
This certificate program prepares you for business leadership roles in the<br />
health services and health technology industries. Capitalizing on its location<br />
in one <strong>of</strong> the world’s most dynamic healthcare marketplaces and its proximity<br />
to the vibrant Bay Area biotechnology industry, the Haas School provides<br />
access to a range <strong>of</strong> courses in health management and collaborates with<br />
companies that <strong>of</strong>fer internships, consulting engagements, current realworld<br />
case studies, guest speakers, and career opportunities.<br />
Certificate in Management <strong>of</strong> Technology<br />
Jointly <strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>Berkeley</strong>’s Haas School, College <strong>of</strong> Engineering, and School<br />
<strong>of</strong> Information, this certificate program <strong>of</strong>fers courses geared toward both<br />
technically and non-technically trained students. Business, engineering,<br />
and information students share the classroom to learn from one another.<br />
You can elect a broad overview <strong>of</strong> technology management or specialize in a<br />
particular field.<br />
Certificate in Real Estate<br />
This certificate program shows potential employers that, in addition to<br />
having mastered the fundamental material in the <strong>MBA</strong> program, you have<br />
successfully mastered the management, development, and financing <strong>of</strong><br />
real estate. Requirements include courses from related fields, such as<br />
architecture, law, public policy, and city planning.<br />
