IAS YEAR BOOK 2007/08
18 countries in the Asia Pacific submitted 150
entries, with 24 qualifying as finalists; the winners
received their awards on 29th February at the
World Effie Festival Gala Dinner.
As I leave what can only be described as an exciting and vibrant
second term as President of IAS, I wish to recount the successes we
have achieved and congratulate our new council members. It is
my honour to also give recognition to those who have walked the
sometimes arduous path with us over the last year as we embraced
new territory and together, built the foundations of a promising era
for IAS.
World event invented in Singapore
In February 2008, Singapore’s Ad Industry hosted the inaugural World
Effie Festival. A world event realised and anchored in Singapore.
Our thanks goes to the New York American Marketing Association
(NYAMA), who established the Effie Awards in 1968, for having the
vision to locate this event in Singapore.
The IAS invited six brilliant Operating Board members who put
together a formidable list of 50 speakers and panelists, making the
event a truly memorable one filled with wisdom and knowledge
from around the globe, celebrating ideas that work.
In 2006, Patrick Mowe and I had the pleasure of welcoming Stephen
Mangham, Group Chairman Ogilvy & Mather Singapore, as Chairman
of the Operating and Supervisory Boards for the Festival. Stephen in
turn enroled a powerful team of industry experts who made our
dream a reality.
The IAS now holds licenses to organise, the World Effie Festival, The
Effie Singapore Awards and the Asia Pacific Effie Awards programmes.
The success of the latter must be attributed largely to the hard work
of Judd Labarthe, Chairman of APAC Effie and to Jennifer Goh, IAS
newly appointed Executive Director who is passionate in her role
and truly believes in making a difference; Jennifer broke new
attendance records for the APAC Awards this year.
