Wie viele Klaviervirtuosen seiner Zeit träumte auch Robert Schumann davon, sich dem Publikum als Pianist
und Komponist zugleich in einem eigenen Klavierkonzert zu präsentieren. Bereits in jungem Alter unternahm
er erste Versuche. In den folgenden Jahren fühlte er sich jedoch zunehmend von der Idee einer formal
freieren Konzeption angezogen. Aus dem Entwurf einer einsätzigen „Phantasie“ entstand schließlich
der Kopfsatz des berühmten Werkes, das hiermit erstmals in einer praktischen Urtextausgabe vorgelegt
wird. Für den Fingersatz konnte die weltweit gefeierte Pianistin Mitsuko Uchida gewonnen werden.
As did many piano virtuosi at the time, Robert Schumann also dreamt of presenting himself to the public
simultaneously as a pianist and composer with his own piano concerto. He had made several first attempts
at an early age. In the years that followed he felt himself increasingly drawn towards the idea of a freer formal
conception. The sketch of a single-movement “Phantasie” finally became the opening movement of the
famous work, that is now being published for the first time in a practical Urtext edition. The fingering was
provided by the world-famous pianist Mitsuko Uchida.

ratur entspricht im Noten- und Worttext den Urtextausgaben. Die Kammermusik wird – ebenfalls mit identischen Texten – als Partitur
vorgelegt. Bei Orchesterwerken wird die Partitur der Gesamtausgaben, jedoch mit neuem Vorwort, wiedergegeben.
Study scores series present titles from both the “Urtext-Edition” and “Complete Editions” (format 17 x 24 cm). The text and music of
the pieces for solo instruments are an exact reproduction of the performing editions. The chamber music submits the scores to the correspond
ing sets of parts of the Urtext edition. The orchestral works contain the scores of the complete editions with updated prefaces.
