The number <strong>of</strong> storage sites, which also stores strategic warheads, has been reduced significantly<br />

since 1991. Shortly before the break-up <strong>of</strong> the Soviet Union in 1991, there were<br />

roughly 500 nuclear storage facilities. By the mid-1990s, the number had declined to<br />
