Citizenship & Community Service<br />
American Legion Awards<br />
Each year the American Legion Auxiliary presents a citizenship award to one<br />
8th grade girl and one 8th grade boy who demonstrate the following:<br />
Honor: Strength and stability of character, high standards of conduct, keen sense<br />
of what is right, adherence to truth and conscience, and devotion to duty.<br />
Scholarship: Scholastic attainment, evidence of industry, and application in<br />
studies.<br />
Service: Kindness, unselfishness, willingness to lend a helping hand, protection to<br />
the weak, and preferment of the interests and welfare of associates, without hope<br />
of personal reward.<br />
Americanism: Active interest in promotion of love of country, as may be expressed<br />
in formal exercises, respect to the flag, knowledge of the National Anthem, the<br />
flag salute, adherence to the country’s highest ideals, and worthy citizenship.<br />
Leadership: Ability to do well the duties of leadership assigned to one as<br />
exemplified in holding of office, committees, etc., and exhibition of good team<br />
play.<br />
Courage: Show moral courage to stand up for what is right; physical courage in<br />
games and play.<br />
