CO-CURRICULUM<br />
ACHIEVEMENTS<br />
Congratulations to <strong>the</strong> following students:<br />
- Renae Batten-Brines (9F) who, on 21 to 23 September, placed first in <strong>the</strong> floor exercise, third on uneven bars<br />
and was second overall.at <strong>the</strong> Women‟s Artistic Gymnastics State Challenge for <strong>the</strong> Queensland Team.<br />
- Ka<strong>the</strong>rine Tronson (11M) who competed at <strong>the</strong> Queensland Ice Skating Championships and received a silver<br />
medal in her level. She will now be in <strong>the</strong> Queensland team competing at National level in December this year.<br />
- Olivia Munro (4A) who has been accepted into <strong>the</strong> Interstate Training Program of <strong>the</strong> Australian Ballet School.<br />
The Australian Ballet School has about 250 students across four levels (ages 9 to 14) in this training program.<br />

SOMERVILLE HOUSE SOLO INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL COMPETITION 2012<br />
The <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>House</strong> Solo Instrumental and Vocal Competition will be held in <strong>the</strong> Music Department on Sunday 14<br />
October with <strong>the</strong> Prize Winners‟ Concert on Monday 29 October. The competition is open to all <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>House</strong><br />
instrumental (including piano) and vocal students whe<strong>the</strong>r learning at school or externally. We look forward to a<br />
wonderful Competition on Sunday and Concert on Monday 29 October.<br />
SENIOR MUSIC DINNER<br />
Years 9-12 Music students and <strong>the</strong>ir families are invited to join <strong>the</strong> Music Convenors, Prefects, Middle School<br />
Monitors and Music Staff to celebrate ano<strong>the</strong>r successful year of musical achievement at our annual music dinner<br />
on Thursday 08 November at 6.00pm at <strong>the</strong> COTAH Restaurant in <strong>the</strong> Southbank Institute of Technology. Full<br />
details and booking forms are available in <strong>the</strong> Music Department Foyer.<br />
SOMERSOUNDS 2012 CD – A CELEBRATION OF JUNIOR SCHOOL MUSIC<br />
The Somersounds 2012 CD is a collection of wonderful music from our very own Junior School Music Ensembles<br />
and students. Choirs, Bands, String Ensembles and Class Items are all included on <strong>the</strong> CD, performing <strong>the</strong>ir very<br />
best work from 2012. This is a great way to celebrate our students‟ music-making through <strong>the</strong> year. All proceeds<br />
go to making 2013 an even better year for Music. I am sure this would make a lovely Christmas gift for family and<br />
friends. The CD cover is a wonderful painting by Jordan Lee in 6A. It is entitled 'Ode to William Robinson'. An<br />
order form is included in this Newsletter and also available in <strong>the</strong> Music Department Foyer. Please contact Ms Deb<br />

INTERMEDIATE END OF YEAR AWARDS CONCERT – Wednesday 24 October 5.00pm<br />
The following ensembles will be performing at <strong>the</strong> Intermediate End of Year Concert (this list is not in performance<br />
order) Intermediate Concert Band, Junior Concert Band, Clarinet Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Ensemble,<br />
Stradivari Strings, Cantamus/Cantilena, Junior Percussion Ensemble, Amadeus Strings. Students are offered a<br />
pre-concert early dinner from 3.30pm-4.15pm.<br />
MUSICFEST 2012 - STRINGS<br />
This term, <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>House</strong> String Ensembles will be entering <strong>the</strong> Music Fest Competition, <strong>the</strong> biggest school<br />
competition in <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn hemisphere. Please keep <strong>the</strong> following dates free. Notes with specific details will be<br />
forwarded shortly. It is vital that <strong>the</strong> students attend all rehearsals punctually, leading up to <strong>the</strong> competition.<br />
<strong>Somerville</strong> Strings and Amadeus Strings will be transported by bus to and from <strong>the</strong> competition. Departing<br />
at 3.15pm and returning to Vulture St at approximately 6.15pm. Please return your permission slips.<br />
