QGSSSA Track and Field event will be held next Friday 19 October. This is a compulsory event for all Year 11<br />

students to attend. Details about this will be sent via email this week.<br />

2013 LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES<br />

At <strong>the</strong> Year 11 Conference held on <strong>the</strong> final Monday and Tuesday of Term 3, <strong>the</strong> current Year 11 students<br />

undertook <strong>the</strong> first stage of voting for <strong>the</strong> Year 12 student leaders of 2013. The Conference organised by Mrs<br />

Olsen, Head of Year 11, and supported by Mrs Ball and many o<strong>the</strong>r dedicated staff forms part of our ongoing<br />

leadership development program.<br />

This preliminary voting provides <strong>the</strong> School with an indication from <strong>the</strong> students about whom <strong>the</strong>y think are<br />

students that can inspire and lead <strong>the</strong> student body next year. This week all students and staff in <strong>the</strong> Senior<br />

School will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to provide information to <strong>the</strong> Principal through <strong>the</strong>ir voting for <strong>House</strong> Co-Captains.<br />

Please find below a summary of <strong>the</strong> selection process dates for School leaders:<br />

Week 2: Principal advises usually five to six students of <strong>the</strong>ir short-listing for 2013 School Captains<br />

Week 3: Each short-listed Captain candidate makes a short presentation at Assembly.<br />

Each short-listed Captain candidate is interviewed by Mrs Kearney, Ms Harris and <strong>the</strong> Head of Year 11.<br />

Saturday 27 October, <strong>the</strong> short-listed 2013 Captain candidates are informed of <strong>the</strong> School‟s selection of<br />

School Captains<br />

Week 4: Monday 29 October - 2013 School Captains announced and presented<br />

Wednesday 31 October – Announce 2013 Boarder Co-Captains, <strong>House</strong> Co-Captains and Prefects<br />

Week 8: 26 November - Principal to announce 2013 Convenors, Sports Co-Captains, and Golden Key Club<br />

members<br />

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS<br />

Literary Awards 2012<br />

Congratulations to Senior School students, Meree Kim who received a first place, Keilin Anderson who received<br />

second place, Abbie Kanagarajah and Belinda Burgess who were both awarded a Highly Commended in <strong>the</strong><br />

Independent Education Union of Australia, James Cook University Australia, English Teachers‟ Association of<br />

Queensland 2012 Literary Competition.<br />

Year 10 La Belle France competition run by <strong>the</strong> Alliance Française<br />

Third Prize: Annie Simes, Amy Langley (shared)<br />

Special Mention: Taylor Green, Stephanie Hynes, Isabella Kalaja, Xan<strong>the</strong> Keneally and Karen Zhou.<br />

We look forward to a wonderful Term 4 full of learning, listening and laughter.<br />

Our whole School Art exhibition INSIGHT 9 is next week! This year‟s exhibition will open on Friday evening, 19<br />

October and will continue on Saturday 20 October and will be presented in Harker Auditorium, Valmai Pidgeon<br />

Performing Art Complex. The opening event promises to be <strong>the</strong> celebratory event it always is - with good food and<br />

refreshments, and <strong>the</strong> opportunity to purchase tickets for <strong>the</strong> beautiful jewellery piece kindly donated by Brisbane<br />

jeweller and past-parent, Angelo Andronis. Plus celebrate <strong>the</strong> artwork of 850 young artists of <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>House</strong>.<br />

Tickets for <strong>the</strong> opening will be $15.00 for adults with free entry for School students.<br />

DR ELAINE KATTE ART AWARD AT INSIGHT 9<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r reason to celebrate at INSIGHT: The Dr Elaine Katte Art Award will be announced at <strong>the</strong> opening of<br />

INSIGHT on Friday 19 October. <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>House</strong> Old Girl, Dr Elaine Katte has gifted this important annual<br />

acquisitive art award to go to a Senior student who has created an artwork deemed to be of excellent standard by<br />
