good atmosphere at school and also integrating stakeholders outside schools 8 . By<br />
linking <strong>the</strong>se two areas, projects across different school subjects may be initiated and<br />
promoted, and synergy, e.g., with regard to (fur<strong>the</strong>r) training of teachers and heads of<br />
school may be developed.<br />
In Styria, preventi<strong>on</strong> measures in schools are promoted by providing support for<br />
planning and implementing school projects aimed at preventing addicti<strong>on</strong>, run as part<br />
of VIVID's PROBE programme for project-based preventi<strong>on</strong> (VIVID <strong>2010</strong>). PROBE projects<br />
have a minimum durati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>on</strong>e week and c<strong>on</strong>sist of several modules (e.g., basic<br />
knowhow <strong>on</strong> addicti<strong>on</strong> and preventi<strong>on</strong>). One <strong>the</strong>me is prepared in a workshop by VIVID<br />
workers in cooperati<strong>on</strong> with <strong>the</strong> students.<br />
Theatre educati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>tinues to be an essential part of preventi<strong>on</strong> activities in Lower<br />
Austria: <strong>the</strong> Addicti<strong>on</strong> Preventi<strong>on</strong> Unit and Team Sieberer rehearsed a new play for<br />
primary school students: Herr Anders (Mr Different), which was presented in February<br />
<strong>2010</strong> (Hörhan, pers<strong>on</strong>al communicati<strong>on</strong>). It treats <strong>the</strong> issues of excessive c<strong>on</strong>sumerism,<br />
<strong>the</strong> atmosphere at school, resp<strong>on</strong>ses to c<strong>on</strong>flicts, spare-time activities and<br />
friendship. As in previous plays, <strong>the</strong> performance is combined with an obligatory informati<strong>on</strong><br />
event for parents and an opti<strong>on</strong>al educati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>ference for teachers.<br />
The trend to combine <strong>the</strong> preventi<strong>on</strong> of addicti<strong>on</strong> and <strong>the</strong> preventi<strong>on</strong> of violence has<br />
c<strong>on</strong>tinued (see GÖG/ÖBIG 2008c). The Addicti<strong>on</strong> Preventi<strong>on</strong> Institute of Upper Austria<br />
drew up guidelines for <strong>the</strong> preventi<strong>on</strong> of addicti<strong>on</strong> and violence, and a platform for<br />
preventing violence was established as an additi<strong>on</strong>al link between experts in addicti<strong>on</strong><br />
preventi<strong>on</strong> and <strong>the</strong> police (Institut Suchtpräventi<strong>on</strong> 2009). The child and youth advisory<br />
office (KiJA) and <strong>the</strong> school psychologists' service are also represented in <strong>the</strong> platform.<br />
This makes it possible to coordinate <strong>the</strong> individual services for promoting life skills<br />
am<strong>on</strong>g school students. In <strong>the</strong> province of Burgenland, <strong>the</strong> project Los — check dein<br />
Leben (Come <strong>on</strong> — get a hold <strong>on</strong> your life) was started, which also combines <strong>the</strong><br />
preventi<strong>on</strong> of addicti<strong>on</strong> and of violence. It has been run since autumn 2009 by <strong>the</strong><br />
Addicti<strong>on</strong> Preventi<strong>on</strong> Unit, in cooperati<strong>on</strong> with <strong>the</strong> police, KiJa and <strong>the</strong> Provincial School<br />
Board (Hausleitner <strong>2010</strong>). It comprises five modules of three teaching units each and is<br />
implemented in <strong>the</strong> course of <strong>on</strong>e semester.<br />
