Association’s participation in the Order’s annual pilgrimage to Lourdes
Each year, the Order of Malta organizes a pilgrimage of handicapped persons to Lourdes. This year’s
event, on the 150 th anniversary of the apparitions there, took place on May 2 – 6. There were 197
participants, including 95 handicapped.
Christmas Eve dinners
For several years, Knights of Malta organize Christmas Eve dinners for people who live alone.
Medical and humanitarian mission in Georgia
Volunteers from the Polish Association of Knights of Malta, including doctors, served several weeks
in Georgia. The Association managed to gather and ship to Georgia 2 tons of medicines, 4.5 tons of
foodstuffs, 2.5 tons of toiletries for children and adults, 0.5 ton of baby food. The total value of
medicines and medical equipment totaled ab. 300,000 zł, and food 20,000 zł.
Other
Knights of Malta take part in actions bringing relief to victims of natural disasters: they provided
assistance during floods in Poland in 1997, floods in the Czech Republic in 2002, floods in Germany,
the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2005. Maltese Aid rescuers were one of the first to reach the collapsed
exhibition hall in Katowice in 2006.
