Celebrant:<br />

St Paul has written in praise <strong>of</strong> love,<br />

a precious gift which gives life and hope to people.<br />

1. May <strong>the</strong> Church in every place<br />

reveal <strong>the</strong> love <strong>of</strong> Christ to o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

in <strong>the</strong> way in which Christians love one ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

and treat all people with respect.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

2. May Christians who are denied religious freedom<br />

especially in India, China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia,<br />

Nepal, Iraq and Afghanistan find hope in Jesus<br />

who faced <strong>the</strong> rejection <strong>of</strong> his own people.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

3. May each one <strong>of</strong> us be renewed in our love for family and friends,<br />

knowing that love endures all things and does not come to an end,<br />

and in that love reach out to those is need.<br />

4. May <strong>the</strong> priests who minister in <strong>the</strong> parishes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eastern Deanery<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Archdiocese</strong>, deepen <strong>the</strong>ir commitment to being preachers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Word during this Year for Priests:<br />

to <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Haiti secure <strong>the</strong>ir well bring and increase <strong>the</strong>ir strength<br />

for <strong>the</strong> task ahead <strong>of</strong> rebuilding <strong>the</strong>ir lives and country.<br />

6. May those who have died along as preachers and witnesses to <strong>the</strong> Word<br />

<strong>of</strong> God, along with our relatives, friends and parishioners find life in<br />

heaven.<br />

Celebrant:<br />

Jesus has shown his power over <strong>the</strong> forces <strong>of</strong> evil<br />

and by his word bought calm to a tormented man.<br />

1. May those whose mental illness<br />

leads <strong>the</strong>m to inflict injuries upon <strong>the</strong>mselves,<br />

find that medical and emotional support<br />

which will alleviate <strong>the</strong>ir distress. Lord, hear us.<br />

2. May those who work with severely mentally ill people<br />

be filled with courage and compassion,<br />

and always show respect for those in <strong>the</strong>ir care.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

3. May our Federal and State Governments work toge<strong>the</strong>r to<br />

develop <strong>the</strong> best possible support for people living with mental illness,<br />

recognizing <strong>the</strong>ir various needs. Lord, hear us.<br />

4. May parents <strong>of</strong> children – young, teenage and adults – with mental illness,<br />

find <strong>the</strong> support and relief <strong>the</strong>y need through governments, Churches,<br />

and community organizations working toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

5. May families torn apart by hatred, abuse and violence, find in <strong>the</strong><br />

dignified response <strong>of</strong> King David to his own son’s hatred, a model<br />

for <strong>the</strong>mselves and <strong>the</strong>ir families. Lord, hear us.<br />

6. May those who honour St Brigid as patron: <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Kilburn and<br />

Beachport, <strong>the</strong> students and staff <strong>of</strong> St Brigid’s Schools at Kilburn and<br />

Evaston, and <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Ireland, be streng<strong>the</strong>ned in <strong>the</strong>ir faith in Christ.<br />

Jesus Christ is <strong>the</strong> light to enlighten <strong>the</strong> pagans<br />

and <strong>the</strong> glory <strong>of</strong> his people Israel.<br />

Through him we pray to <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Mercies.<br />

1. May every person, baptised into Christ,<br />

carry in <strong>the</strong>ir hearts <strong>the</strong> light <strong>of</strong> faith.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

2. May those who have dedicated <strong>the</strong>mselves to Jesus Christ<br />

through <strong>the</strong> Consecrated Life, rejoice in him<br />

and show his love to o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

3. May <strong>the</strong> religious women and men in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Archdiocese</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Adelaide</strong><br />

be richly blessed this day as <strong>the</strong>y serve <strong>the</strong> people<br />

<strong>of</strong> our local Church with great generosity.<br />

4. May <strong>the</strong> retired religious in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Archdiocese</strong><br />

nourish <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> our local Church through <strong>the</strong>ir prayer,<br />

voluntary works and <strong>the</strong> wisdom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir years.<br />

5. May God grant <strong>the</strong> grace <strong>of</strong> vocation to <strong>the</strong> Consecrated Life<br />

to young women and men, so that with hearts <strong>of</strong> integrity<br />

<strong>the</strong>y can witness to his self dedication. Lord, hear us.<br />

6. May today’s World Wetlands Day, with its <strong>the</strong>me: Biodiversity<br />

and Climate Change, alert us to our responsibilities to care for this planet.<br />

Wednesday Fourth Week in Ordinary Time<br />

Celebrant:<br />

From <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> Jesus’ ministry he met with<br />

opposition, yet he continued in a spirit <strong>of</strong> trust and hope.


1. May those who teach <strong>the</strong> Gospel in situations <strong>of</strong> danger,<br />

always be filled with <strong>the</strong> courage and strength <strong>of</strong> Jesus.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

2. May priests who see that <strong>the</strong> Gospel <strong>the</strong>y preach is rejected<br />

or treated with indifference, not loose heart, but in this Year for Priests,<br />

continue to live out <strong>the</strong>ir vocation as teachers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> word.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

3. May each <strong>of</strong> us carry our daily cross with dignity<br />

since suffering is part <strong>of</strong> our training helping us to mature<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Christian life, producing <strong>the</strong> fruits <strong>of</strong> peace and goodness.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

4. May we receive <strong>the</strong> grace <strong>of</strong> repentance, as did King David,<br />

And trust in <strong>the</strong> mercy <strong>of</strong> God as we strive to reform our lives.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

5. May <strong>the</strong> prayers <strong>of</strong> St Blaise, bishop and martyr, assist all who suffer<br />

illness or diseases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> throat.<br />

6. May <strong>the</strong> medical services for <strong>the</strong> injured people <strong>of</strong> Haiti be increased<br />

through international aid and <strong>the</strong> skills <strong>of</strong> volunteer doctors and nurses.<br />

Thursday 4 th February<br />

Fourth Week in Ordinary Time<br />

Celebrant:<br />

Sisters and bro<strong>the</strong>rs, as we recall Jesus ga<strong>the</strong>ring <strong>the</strong> Twelve<br />

around him to assist in <strong>the</strong> ministry <strong>of</strong> preaching and<br />

healing. we pray for those who continue <strong>the</strong>ir ministry in <strong>the</strong><br />

Church.<br />

1. We pray for our Archbishop Philip, Emeritus Archbishop, Leonard<br />

and all <strong>of</strong> our Diocesan and Religious priests, that in this Year for Priests,<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir ministry may be one <strong>of</strong> healing, uniting, and teaching <strong>the</strong> people.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

2. We pray for all who work with bishops<br />

in a collaborative ministry,<br />

that <strong>the</strong>ir witness to Christ may be loving and wide reaching.


Lord, hear us.<br />

3. We pray for missionaries, that <strong>the</strong>y may not be burdened with<br />

unnecessary material possessions, but with glad hearts reveal <strong>the</strong><br />

compassionate face <strong>of</strong> Christ to <strong>the</strong> people <strong>the</strong>y serve.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

4. We pray for fa<strong>the</strong>rs that as <strong>the</strong>y prepare for <strong>the</strong>ir deaths <strong>the</strong>y may<br />

Bless <strong>the</strong>ir children as did David bless his son Solomon, so that faith and<br />

love is passed from generation to generation.<br />

5. We pray for <strong>the</strong> Church in Haiti, that with <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> so many priests<br />

and religious and <strong>the</strong> destruction <strong>of</strong> churches and schools, <strong>the</strong> people will<br />

draw closer to each with support and encouragement.<br />

4 th Week in Ordinary Time<br />

Celebrant:<br />

Sisters and bro<strong>the</strong>rs, <strong>the</strong> story <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> martyrdom <strong>of</strong> St John<br />

<strong>the</strong> Baptist shows his courage in stark contrast to <strong>the</strong> evil<br />

desires <strong>of</strong> Herod and Herodias.<br />

1. We pray for those who manipulate o<strong>the</strong>r people<br />

for <strong>the</strong>ir own ambition, that <strong>the</strong>y may come to respect <strong>the</strong> dignity<br />

<strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs without fear or favour.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

2. We pray for those who are treated unjustly or cruelty,<br />

that <strong>the</strong>y may retain <strong>the</strong>ir sense <strong>of</strong> self-worth<br />

and act with dignity throughout <strong>the</strong>ir ordeal.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

3. We pray for a good spirit in our Church community,<br />

so that we may love one ano<strong>the</strong>r like bro<strong>the</strong>rs and sisters,<br />

and remember to welcome strangers warmly.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

4. We pray for those who are in prison,


especially those who are tortured or are being badly treated as political<br />

prisoners that justice may prevail. Lord, hear us.<br />

5. We pray for our ancestors and honour <strong>the</strong>ir memory, giving thanks for all<br />

<strong>the</strong> good <strong>the</strong>y did, just as <strong>the</strong> writer <strong>of</strong> Ecclesiasticus honoured <strong>the</strong><br />

memory <strong>of</strong> King David. Lord, hear us.<br />

6. We pray for all who honour St Agatha as patron:<br />

<strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Arthurton and bell-founders,<br />

that <strong>the</strong>y may be <strong>of</strong> good faith and hope. Lord, hear us.<br />

Celebrant:<br />

Dear friends,<br />

<strong>the</strong> compassion <strong>of</strong> Jesus for <strong>the</strong> crowds<br />

continues to inspire <strong>the</strong> Church<br />

to have a love and concern for all peoples.<br />

1. That <strong>the</strong> Church in her members<br />

may work for <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>of</strong> all people<br />

<strong>of</strong> every race, religion and culture<br />

by promoting justice with mercy.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

2. That we, like Jesus, may find that quiet place<br />

where we can be alone with <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r in prayer.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

3. That we may keep on doing good works<br />

and sharing our blessings<br />

with those who are struggling.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />

4. That <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> restoring and maintaining peace between <strong>the</strong> Israeli’s<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Palestinians may continue with steadfastness, patience and<br />

respect. Lord, hear us.<br />

5. That wise people will be able to resolve <strong>the</strong> terrible situations in


Iraq and Afghanistan. Lord, hear us.<br />

6. We pray for <strong>the</strong> Church in Japan, that <strong>the</strong> witness <strong>of</strong> St Paul Miki<br />

and his companions, may enliven it to speak to <strong>the</strong> culture <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> land, so<br />

that <strong>the</strong> Gospel can be more clearly understood.<br />

Lord, hear us.<br />
