5.8 A range of other information was used to inform the evaluation of the<br />
<strong>Shetland</strong> landscapes. The following aspects of the <strong>Shetland</strong> landscape were<br />
investigated:<br />

Cultural heritage, including Historic Landuse Assessment, scheduled<br />
monuments, Gardens and Designed <strong>Landscape</strong>s, listed buildings, and other<br />
visible features (Figure 5.4);<br />
Natural heritage and biodiversity, including designated sites (Figure 5.5);<br />
<br />
<br />
Geodiversity, including the <strong>Shetland</strong> Geopark and on-site interpretation of<br />
geological sites; and<br />
Recreation, including walking and cycling routes, visitor attractions, tourist<br />
centres, boat trips, and other opportunities for appreciating the landscape<br />
of <strong>Shetland</strong>.<br />
5.9 In each case, it is the contribution of these aspects to an appreciation of the<br />
visible landscape which was the focus.<br />
