Quality education is important to the residents <strong>of</strong> Severna Park, and many will tell you that one reason<br />

they decided to move to Severna Park is the schools. The Greater Severna Park area has some <strong>of</strong><br />

the County’s highest rated public schools, as well as very highly regarded independent and parochial<br />

schools. The listing below does not cover all the schools attended by students in the <strong>greater</strong> Severna<br />

Anne Arundel Community<br />

College is among the nation’s best.<br />

In 2011, the college received the<br />

National Innovation <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

Award for its Student Success 2020<br />

Summit. In 2010, in a survey conducted<br />

by the Chronicle <strong>of</strong> Higher<br />

Education, AACC was voted as the<br />

best colleges in the U.S. to work for.<br />

The programs <strong>of</strong>fered by the college<br />

range from special classes for children to senior classes. The<br />

school <strong>of</strong>fers two-year degrees in a variety <strong>of</strong> fields. AACC has also<br />

partnered with select four year Maryland colleges to <strong>of</strong>fer undergraduate<br />

and graduate degrees through the AACC University<br />

Severna Park High School, which currently enrolls 1921<br />

students in grade 9-12, has been recognized in Maryland and nationally<br />

for excellence in academics and athletics, as well as being<br />

known for its Falcon Band and Orchestra and it perennial favorite<br />

musical production—Rock ‘n Roll Revival. SPHS was built in 1959,<br />

with renovations in 1973 and 1982. The school has been recognized<br />

as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School, as well as a national<br />

Blue Ribbon School. This program recognizes schools for making<br />

significant progress is closing the achievement gap.<br />
