The greater Severna Park area is home to two outstanding independent
schools.
Chesapeake Academy was founded in 1980 by four educators
with no money and big dreams. Since moving to its Arnold
campus in 1982, the school has gradually expanded its facilities
to include a gymnasium, a black box theatre, enlarged media
center, art and music rooms, as well as state of the art computer
lab. Today the school enrolls more than 260 students in preschool
through grade five. “Celebrating the uniqueness of each
child, Chesapeake Academy opens doors to a lifetime of learning
through an innovative program that inspires excellence and
creativity, builds character, and fosters respect for the dignity of
every human being.” Chesapeake Academy is accredited by of the
Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Severn School was founded in 1914 to serve as the preparatory
school of the US Naval Academy. Today Severn is an independent,
co-educational, day school serving more than 600 students
in grades 6-12. The school is accredited by the Middle States
Association, http://www.middlestates.org, and is a member
of the Association of Independent Maryland Schools. The 19 acre
campus includes the range of facilities needed to support the academic,
athletic and theatrical programs. Severn focuses on serving
the needs of students who are preparing for college, while at the
same time helping the students to achieve personal excellence.
