XTERRA EXPERIENCE: Eighth year, in first-ever race he<br />
won XTERRA Czech in 2002.<br />
RACING ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Three-time Olympic<br />
triathlete - finishing 7th in Sydney (racing for France), then<br />
8th in Athens, and 19th in Beijing racing for Switzerland;<br />
2000 ITU Long Distance World Champion.<br />
2004: Won in Saipan, Austria, and Germany, was 7th at<br />
XTERRA Czech, and third at XTERRA Italy. Put together<br />
the best three races in Europe to claim the XTERRA<br />
European Tour Championship. Placed 2nd at XTERRA<br />
World Championship.<br />
2005: Won XTERRA Saipan for third straight year, finished<br />
third in Temecula, won XTERRA Czech and XTERRA Italy,<br />
placed 3rd in Richmond, then won XTERRA Spain which<br />
earned him his second straight XTERRA European Tour<br />
title. Did not race in Keystone. Placed 6th in Tahoe and<br />
finished third in the XTERRA U.S. Pro Points Series. Was<br />
7th in Maui.<br />
2006: Won XTERRA Saipan for fourth straight time and<br />
was third at XTERRA France, which he helped organize.<br />
Placed 2nd in Maui.<br />
2007: Won XTERRA Saipan for the 5th time, the XTERRA<br />
European Championship race in Italy, and was 2nd in Maui.<br />
LAST YEAR: Won XTERRA European Championship race<br />
in Italy for second straight season, finished 9th at XTERRA<br />
Czech, 19th at the Olympic triathlon in Beijing, and third at<br />
XTERRA France-Mondelieu in September.<br />
THIS YEAR: Placed third at XTERRA Italy and fourth at<br />
XTERRA European Championship in Austria.<br />
MAUI PASTS: Four top 5 finishes including three runnerups<br />
in six attempts. Placed 5th last year. In 2007 he<br />
headed out onto the run stride for stride with Stoltz until the<br />
first big climb when the Caveman pulled away but he held<br />
on for 2nd. In 2006 he was winning the race until the last<br />
mile of the run when Hamish Carter passed him, and he<br />
held on for second just 19 seconds behind Carter - the<br />
closest runner-up finish in race history. In 2005 he had the<br />
4th best swim time and 8th best bike split to finish 7th<br />
overall. Was the runner-up in 2004 when he was the race<br />
leader until a mile out of run transition, didn’t race in 2003,<br />
and placed 5th in 2002.<br />
