BRIEF DESCRIPTION<br />

The main objective of the marketing department is to deliver commercial revenue targets through marketing<br />

initiatives. The marketing team drives activity across a number of key areas including season tickets,<br />

match tickets, merchandise, hospitality, stadium tours, Young Royals membership and special activities<br />

and events. The marketing team are also responsible for growing the <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club brand.<br />

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

During your placement you will be working alongside members of the marketing team and will have the<br />

opportunity to gain an understanding of how the department functions and the role it plays at <strong>Reading</strong><br />

Football Club.<br />

All entrants must be current members of the Young Royals, <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club’s official junior<br />

supporters club and in Year 10 (14-15 year olds) or Year 11 (15-16 year olds) and in the 2012/13<br />

academic year at schools in England and Wales.<br />

Please note your personal details will only be used in connection with the Young Royals Work<br />

Experience Placement competition. This 4 day Placement will take place during the Easter holidays.<br />

This competition requires significant commitment and input from entrants and its terms and conditions<br />

are therefore very important as they set out the requirements of the competition which apply to all entries.<br />

a) Liaising with <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club about the Placement arrangements.<br />

Football Club related communications. The student, with support from their parent/guardian, is expected<br />

to make their own travel arrangements to/from the Placement. Travel costs incurred will not be reimbursed.<br />

c) Providing a packed lunch each day.<br />

d) Participating in the planned Work Experience placement activities; shadowing the Marketing Executive<br />

at <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club as part of the placement, as specified by <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club<br />

in the related communications.<br />

e) Participating in publicity opportunities, arranged by <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club which will be used to<br />

promote your child’s involvement in the competition and the competition itself. This may involve<br />

participation in photography, interviews and filming which may be used in any form of media,<br />

electronic, social, print, web or otherwise. This may include the use of your child’s full name.<br />

f) Participating in providing feedback and/or completing feedback forms so <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club can<br />

evaluate and report on the potential benefits that participation in this programme has brought to your child.<br />

COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS<br />

1. Competition Entry<br />

1) Entry to this competition is open from 5pm on Friday 1 February to 5pm on Friday 1 March 2013 for young people in Year 10<br />

(14-15 year olds) and Year 11 (15-16 year olds) who are in the 2012/13 academic year at schools in England and Wales.<br />

2) All entrants must be current members of the Young Royals, <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club’s official junior supporters club.<br />

3) To enter this competition the student and the student’s parent/guardian must read the supporting information and these Terms<br />

and Conditions. The student must complete, in full, the application form, downloadable at www.readingfc.co.uk, for the 4 day<br />

Young Royals Work Experience Placement.<br />

4) Completed application forms must be posted to Dara Thomas, <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club, Madejski Stadium, Junction 11 M4,<br />

<strong>Reading</strong>, Berkshire RG2 0FL or emailed to darathomas@readingfc.co.uk.<br />

5) All application forms must be received by 5pm on Friday 1 March 2013. No entries will be accepted after this date and time. All<br />

entries are subject to verification and <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club has the right to disqualify incomplete, illegible or altered entries, or any<br />

entry not made in accordance with the entry instructions and these terms and conditions.<br />

6) No responsibility can be accepted for entries which are damaged, lost or not received by <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club.<br />

7) Proof of emailing your entry is not proof of receipt and <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club accepts no liability for lost, delayed or<br />

damaged entries.<br />

8) Application forms become the property of the <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club upon receipt and will not be returned to the applicant.<br />

9) <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club may publish, reproduce or copy the applications in any form of media in order to promote this competition<br />

and/or other initiatives; by entering this competition you acknowledge and consent to such use. Please ensure you keep a copy of<br />

the application form for your own records.<br />

10) All valid entries will be judged, using the criteria set out below and at the sole discretion of <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club, whose decision<br />

is final. No correspondence will be entered into as to the decision.<br />

11) The application forms will be judged using the following criteria:<br />

a) relevant skills, personal qualities and knowledge<br />

b) enthusiasm and good communication skills<br />

c) evidence that this will help them with their future career path<br />

12) By entering this competition the student’s parent/guardian is committing that the student will, if successful in their application,<br />

be able to attend and to participate in the Placement and any associated activities.<br />

13) The winning student will be informed by Friday 8 March. The date and details, including risk assessment, relating to the<br />

Placement will be communicated to the winning student, their parent/guardian and the school.<br />

2. Parent/Guardian Consent Form<br />

1) Once notified as a winner, a completed and signed Parent/Guardian Consent Form giving permission for their child to participate<br />

further in this competition and to participate in the Placement is necessary. <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club will give this form to the<br />

winner/parent/guardian when the student is advised that they are the winner.<br />

2) The completed and signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form must be posted to Dara Thomas, <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club,<br />

Madejski Stadium, Junction 11 M4, <strong>Reading</strong>, Berkshire RG2 0FL by Friday 15 March.<br />

3. The Prize<br />

1) The placement is four days in duration and will take place during the 2013 Easter holidays: either Tuesday 2 – Friday 5 April 2013<br />

or Tuesday 9 – Friday 13 April 2013. The dates will be confirmed by <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club.<br />

2) The Placement will be hosted by <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club and will be a structured period of activities for the student to gain an<br />

insight into the role for which they applied. During this Placement, the winner will spend as much of the 4 days as possible, but<br />

a minimum of half a day per day, shadowing the Marketing Executive.<br />

3) Winners, with support from their parent/guardian, are expected to make their own travel arrangements to/from the Placement.<br />

Travel costs incurred will not be reimbursed.<br />

4) The parent/guardian must be contactable at all times during the Placement in case of emergencies.<br />

5) <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club may announce the winning students on their websites.<br />

4. Other<br />

1) During your Young Royals Work Experience Placement you may be exposed to information of a sensitive and confidential nature.<br />

It is imperative you maintain confidentiality during this time and once your placement has concluded.<br />

2) Winners may be asked to participate in evaluation of the competition and in any media/PR opportunities that arise. Participation<br />

could be in the form of on/offline media photographs, interviews or broadcast appearances as detailed in the parent/guardian<br />

consent form provided by <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club.<br />

3) <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club have the right to withdraw the Placement, change dates/times, venues, content of the Placement at any<br />

stage of this competition.<br />

4) The information contained in all promotional materials and websites is accurate at the time of being published.<br />

5) <strong>Reading</strong> Football Club cannot be held responsible for any subsequent changes.<br />

6) There is no cash alternative or equivalent to the prizes (or any part thereof).<br />

7) Entry into this competition deems acknowledgement and acceptance of all parts of these terms and conditions and other<br />

requirements and features of the competition.
