“I came to the Family Ties Program
in low spirits, no direction, a chaotic
household, fear of the world. I had no
knowledge of who I was or what I
was capable of and I did not have the
motivation or desire to find out.
Fortunately my family support worker
gave me the resources and support to
face my challenges and hard times.
She pushed me beyond myself. She
never gave up on me. Even though
she presented me with what I thought
were impossible challenges, she
changed my viewpoint about how
I looked at life that I'm grateful for.
Without the Family Ties Program and
my family support worker’s direction,
honest opinions, useful and never
ending resources, awesome laughter,
and the stern “quit being so hard on
yourself” comments, I know I would
not be where I am today. I have
gained more emotional stability. I feel
more human, I feel heard, and I feel
important. I am capable of making
decisions, I am capable of making
change happen, and I am necessary.”
