<strong>Town</strong> of Lee Annual <strong>Town</strong> <strong>Report</strong> - <strong>2012</strong> COMMUNICATIONS CENTER I applied for <strong>and</strong> received over $150,000.00 from <strong>the</strong> St<strong>at</strong>e 911 Grant to fund <strong>the</strong> oper<strong>at</strong>ion of <strong>the</strong> 911 D<strong>is</strong>p<strong>at</strong>ch Center. We were able to continue to upgrade our communic<strong>at</strong>ions infrastructure <strong>and</strong> to provide additional <strong>and</strong> replacement pagers <strong>and</strong> radios for our emergency services <strong>and</strong> Tyringham Police <strong>and</strong> Fire Departments. Additionally, we were able to provide central air conditioning to <strong>the</strong> d<strong>is</strong>p<strong>at</strong>ch area <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> equipment area to prevent over-he<strong>at</strong>ing of our computer equipment. Our d<strong>is</strong>p<strong>at</strong>chers continue to receive St<strong>at</strong>e 911 training to maintain <strong>the</strong>ir certific<strong>at</strong>ions. Our d<strong>is</strong>p<strong>at</strong>chers are our point of contact for all of our emergency services for Lee, <strong>and</strong> Tyringham <strong>and</strong> also providing EMS to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong> of Stockbridge. The Elderly Checkin Program <strong>is</strong> also serviced by <strong>the</strong> d<strong>is</strong>p<strong>at</strong>chers. The d<strong>is</strong>p<strong>at</strong>ch center as always, <strong>is</strong> where our residents <strong>and</strong> v<strong>is</strong>itors can get answers to most of <strong>the</strong>ir questions <strong>and</strong> concerns. It <strong>is</strong> a very valuable resource. I thank Superv<strong>is</strong>or Donna Tyer for her continued cooper<strong>at</strong>ion in maintaining <strong>the</strong> professional<strong>is</strong>m of <strong>the</strong> 911 Center <strong>and</strong> to <strong>the</strong> staff th<strong>at</strong> make <strong>the</strong> 911 Center oper<strong>at</strong>e so well. <strong>Town</strong> of Lee Annual <strong>Town</strong> <strong>Report</strong> - <strong>2012</strong> EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY As <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong>’s Emergency Management Chief, I am responsible for ensuring <strong>the</strong> safety of our citizens in times of n<strong>at</strong>ural or man-made d<strong>is</strong>aster. In cooper<strong>at</strong>ion with <strong>the</strong> Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Federal Emergency Management Agency, our 800 page plus Emergency Response Plan Manual was completely upd<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>and</strong> transferred to electronic form<strong>at</strong>. Th<strong>is</strong> was an arduous task th<strong>at</strong> required countless man hours, as <strong>the</strong> manual had not been upd<strong>at</strong>ed in about 7 years. Not having a certified ERP, would make <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong> ineligible for any st<strong>at</strong>e or federal reimbursement monies for d<strong>is</strong>asters. After <strong>the</strong> manual was upd<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>and</strong> approved, I was able to receive about $5000.00 in Grant funds used to purchase digital cameras <strong>and</strong> a video training system. Additionally, with <strong>the</strong> ass<strong>is</strong>tance of DPW Engineer Chr<strong>is</strong> Pompi <strong>and</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Admin<strong>is</strong>tr<strong>at</strong>or Robert Nason, we received about $15,000 in storm rel<strong>at</strong>ed re-imbursements. Mr. Pompi, Mr. Nason <strong>and</strong> I are working closely with MEMA to receive additional funds towards <strong>the</strong> damage to <strong>the</strong> Powder Mill Brook Bridge on Meadow Street. The Emergency Service Zone Plan was also upd<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>and</strong> submitted for review to <strong>the</strong> Western Massachusetts Emergency Medical Service. Th<strong>is</strong> plan allows us to particip<strong>at</strong>e in trainings <strong>and</strong> grant opportunities. As always, my door <strong>is</strong> open for citizens compliments <strong>and</strong> concerns, <strong>and</strong> I look forward to hearing from you. In closing I w<strong>is</strong>h to extend my thanks to <strong>the</strong> Board of Selectmen, <strong>Town</strong> Admin<strong>is</strong>tr<strong>at</strong>or Robert Nason, <strong>and</strong> all <strong>the</strong> department heads with whom we work so closely <strong>and</strong> cooper<strong>at</strong>ively.
