7.1.8. Sensitometric standards. For X-ray films exposed to X- and gammarays<br />

ISO has issued a standard for the determination of speed and average<br />

gradientt. No such international standard exists for X-ray films used in neutron<br />

radiography. However, AFNOR has published a French standard for industrial<br />

radiographic films used for neutron radiography with gadolinium converters.<br />

In this standard the mode of irradiation and the method of determining the<br />

sensitivity and average contrast of films used in industrial neutronography is<br />

described. The spectrum of energy of the electrons emitted by the converter<br />

during irradiation with neutrons is replaced by the spectrum emitted by carbon<br />

14. A planar, non filtered carbon 14 source is used for the irradiation of films.<br />

It is placed in close contact with the emulsion side of the film. The irradiation<br />

ought to be such as to produce a characteristic curve including net density<br />
