Network server is implemented ontop of the core engine with userauthentication support.RESULTS & CONCLUSIONThe VDDBMS system is able to:• Display multiple backend RDBMSas if they are one single, virtualdatabase host.• Perform database and table managementsin multiple backendRDBMS.• Perform queries and updates inmultiple backend RDBMS.Compared with a standaloneRDBMS system such as MySQL, theVDDBMS system performance is about10 to 100 times slower. However, ithas the advantage in that it can performdistributed query on multipleRDBMS hosts from different vendors.FUTURE WORK• Distributed resource catalogue anddistributed lock manager.• Support for aggregation (bottomup)approach. In this mode, existingdatabase deployments can beintegrated as one virtual database.The user would still be able to usethe existing deployments as independentsystem as well as aggregatethem with the VDDBMS system.• Support for error recovery.• Performance optimization.• Integration of a more intelligent algorithmon top of the system forautomated data replica or fragmentmanagement using an already published/implementedwork.CONTRIBUTION TO THE OPENSOURCE COMMUNITYThis work has been published as anOpen Source Software (OSS) projectvia the SourceForge code repository.The project homepage can be accessedfrom the URL http://vddbms.sourceforge.net.PROJECT PUBLICATIONSAl-Mistarihi, H.
