We have worked withArsenal Football Club since 2000 on allaspects of transport for the new stadium.The Cambridgeshire Guided Buswayscheme that we have been working onsince its conception is also proceeding,having received funding approval of£92.5 million in July. Other Bus RapidTransit (BRT) projects we are working oninclude schemes in Colombia, the ThamesGateway, Bristol, Luton and Lagos.In addition, we have been busy expandinginto the USA and Canada including workon superhighways in Texas and a newlight rail scheme in Vancouver. To supportour international growth, we also recentlyopened two new offices in Vancouver,Canada and Wellington, New Zealand.As Autumn approaches we arelooking forward to new commissionsfrom local government in the UKthrough our Pharos initiative.New faces…Antonio García Pastor , MadridAssociateAntonio brings 20 years’transport planning experiencein both the public and privatesector to our operations inMadrid. He was technicaldirector of the Spanish arm ofVeolia Transport/Connex andworked for the Madrid Transport Authority.Jim Collins, LondonAssociateJim joins us from Laing Rail, wherehe was a Bid Director for newfranchises. He has an extensivebackground in rail, holding anumber of key managementpositions at the SRA, Network Railand British Rail.Steven Fraser, EdinburghPrincipal ConsultantSteven joins us from ColinBuchanan, where he worked ona range of transport planningprojects for both public andprivate sector clients. Hehas also spent over 10 yearsdeveloping and implementingtransport projects.Duncan Edmonson, EdinburghPrincipal ConsultantDuncan joins us from MVA.He has extensive experiencein demand and revenueforecasting, fares modelling,analysis and research forrail industry clients.Vicente Marañón De Pablo, LondonSenior ConsultantVicente worked for AENAon the development ofregional airports. Hisexperience also includesstrategic development, trafficforecasting and legal issuesrelating to airport management.New Consultants...Enrico Bernardis joins our Bolognaoffice from Gruppo Torinese Trasporti(GTT), where he worked on thefirst line of the Turin Metro.Richard Rickards worked at QinetiQ, wherehe provided cost-benefit analysis for publicsector procurement.Adeline Salkeld has a BA (hons) in GraphicCommunication from University of Readingand joins us from a publishing agency.Graham Read, LeedsAssociateGordon Bird, LondonAssociateGraham was Head of StrategicPlanning and a member of themanagement board at SouthYorkshire Passenger TransportExecutive. He brings with himover 30 years’ experience inlocal transport planning.Gordon joins us from BoozAllen Hamilton, where heworked on rail projects in theUK, Ireland and Holland. Hiscareer also spans 12 yearswith London Underground inoperations management anddevelopment planning.Gerald Lamprecht, LondonPrincipal ConsultantGerald was CEO of BIM, anAustrian transport consultancy,where he focused on busand rail projects. He hasstudied Russian and Czech,and has a good knowledgeof the Central and EasternEuropean markets.Peter Scott, EdinburghPrincipal ConsultantPeter joins us from ScottishEnterprise National where hewas a senior member of theTransport Team with a focus onfreight. His role there has givenhim a wealth of experience andcontacts in the freight sectorthroughout Scotland.Peter Zanzottera, LeedsSenior ConsultantPete joins us from City of YorkCouncil, where he headedthe Smarter Choices team.He is well known for hisbackground in cycling,vision zero for road safetyand campaign research.Adam Dale joins us after completing aBA(Hons) in Graphic Design at The ArtsInstitute in Bournemouth.We are always looking for gifted, motivatedindividuals for roles in all parts of thecompany, in all parts of the world. News in brief2006 Sustainable Transport AwardsNearly 200 transport officers, seniormanagers and politicians from Londonboroughs joined Transport for Londoncommissioner Peter Hendy and guestspeaker Kate Humble (of the BBC’sSpringwatch fame) at London’s HaywardGallery for the 2006 SustainableTransport Awards on 6th July 2006.Hosted by TfL and organised by SteerDavies Gleave, the awards recognise theWalk2go launch eventSeptember 20th saw the launch oftwo cutting edge web sites promotingincreased walking and access to localservices for commuters, residents andvisitors in London’s Bankside area. Over80 local businesses, transport officers,politicians and consultants attended theevent held in London’s Borough Market.The first of the sites, Walk2go.com, usesgaming technology to help visitors andresidents design their own interactive3D versions of Borough High Street.The same site also allows people tosubmit local walks via an interactivemap and upload videos and photos ofinteresting locations along the route.The second site, betterbankside.co.uk,has been extensively updated withan interactive map that displays localTea and transportPharos, a new initiative of Steer DaviesGleave in partnership with BuckinghamshireCounty Council, was launched in July. Heldat the Athenaeum Hotel in Mayfair, 12Transport Directors from councils acrossEngland and Andrew Forster from LTTattended. The event provided the opportunityto showcase and discuss best practicepeople and initiatives that are helpingcommunities, schools and businessespromote cleaner, healthier ways oftravelling in London. Despite majorchallenges in encouraging people tochange their attitudes and behaviour,dedicated work has contributedto a less congested and pollutedenvironment, safer roads and healthierliving. Run by The Institute forTransport Studies (ITS) in conjunction withSteer Davies Gleave and the TransportPlanning Society, the competition requiredparticipants to useITS’s transport policyexplorer, PLUTO, todevise a package oftransport and land-usepolicies to tackle thetransport problems ofa hypothetical town.National Transport AwardsGuests from Slough Borough Council,Cambridgeshire County Council,Bedfordshire County Council, MiltonKeynes, Fastrack and TfL joined us onour table at the National TransportAwards on the 18th July. SteerDavies Gleave’s market developmentdirector, Fred Beltrandi, presentedthe ‘Most Improved Local TransportAuthority’ award to Torbay Council.Steer Davies Gleave runs for JP MorganNineteen runners from Steer Davies Gleavetook part in the JP Morgan Chase, anannual event held across five continentsto promote a commitment to health andfitness. Three of our runners finished the5km run in under 20 minutes and our‘tortoise’ design came in the top five of theT-shirt competition. The competition wasjudged on the design that best reflectedthe spirit of competition and camaraderie.Visit from Indonesian officialsIn September 2006, we hosted a groupof senior officials from Indonesia. Overtwo days, we organised several seminarson congestion charging in London, aswell as visits to the Greater LondonAuthority, TfL and Canary Wharf.New Canadian and New Zealand officesAs a result of Steer Davies Gleave’scontinual growth, we have opened twonew offices in Vancouver and Wellington.
