Kentucky-Tennessee NewsHarold and Retha Royrecently celebrated their60th wedding anniversary.Roy served in the U.S.Navy during World War II,and saw combat in boththe European-African andthe Asiatic Pacific theaters.He was awarded six battlestars, seven U.S. medalsand decorations, andseveral medals by foreigncountries. Roy participatedin the capture of the Germansub marine U-505, nowon permanent display as awar memorial in the ChicagoMuseum of Scienceand Industry. He was inTokyo Bay on SeptemberWith the encouragementof Tim Madding, pastor,the Louisville, Ky., Firstchurch experienced servantevangelism using popcorn.The idea is simple: Do anBikers and skaters receivedmore than just popcorn andlemonade.act of kindness to meetpeople where they are. Theidea of passing out bags offree popcorn and cold lemonadeat Louisville’s skatepark was certainly differentfrom passing out DiscoveryRoys Celebrate 60 Years of MarriageRetha and Harold Roy2, 1945, for the SurrenderCeremonies aboard the USSMissouri, ending WorldWar II.Retha and Haroldbegan dating when hereturned home to RussellSprings, Ky., from theNavy, and they were marrieda few months later.They were baptizedinto the Seventh-day <strong>Adventist</strong>Church in Cincinnati,Ohio, April 17, 1949,as a result of the faithfulwit nessing of an <strong>Adventist</strong>neighbor.Harold earned abachelor of arts degree intheology at <strong>Southern</strong> MissionaryCollege. Later hecompleted graduate workat Spalding <strong>University</strong> andPacific Western <strong>University</strong>.Retha attended ClarkLouisville Uses Popcorn EvangelismBible Lesson cards.Six adults and a fewchildren met after church tomake a huge bag of popcorn.Small bags of popcornwere filled at the park.On each small bag wasa business card that said,“This is our simple way…ofsaying that God loves you.”And, in small print, “Let usknow if we can be of moreassistance.” On the backof the card was a map andinformation about weeklyservices, the church’s website,and the phone number.Before the “popcornstand” could be set up, skaters,boarders, and cycler’sgathered around asking,“Are you really givingaway free popcorn anddrink?” Assuring them thatit was free, an interest wasinstantly generated. Just asMadding predicted, opportunitiesto share Christ’slove developed. At leastone Bible study resultedTechnical College and the<strong>University</strong> of Ken tucky.The Roys served indenominational work formore than 35 years in theOhio, Pennsylvania, GulfStates, and Kentucky-Tennesseeconferences.Since retiring, Haroldhas served as a chaplainand has con tinued writing.Retha enjoys ornithology,sewing, and growing flowers.The Roys have twosons, two grandchildren,and two great-grandchildren.Harold and Rethaare members of the PeweeValley, Ky., church.65th WeddingAnniversaryThe 65th wedding anniversary of Jack and MargaretInch was celebrated by the Gallatin church onMarch 24, <strong>2007</strong>. Jackand Margaret weremarried on March 23,1942, in Ohio. Theyare charter membersof the Gallatin church.Jack has been thetreasurer and elderfor many years.
