Carolina NewsEddlemonAnnual GolfTournamentSunday, May 6,dawned cold, windy,and with overcast cloudedskies. This did notdampen the enthusiasmof more than 60 eagergolfers gathered at thelinks of Tryon CountryClub for the second annualEddlemon <strong>Adventist</strong>School Golf ClassicTournament.There were 15teams who teed off forthe 18-hole game. Fourholes offered prizes fora hole-in-one. Hole #4had a prize of $15,000if anyone were to beso lucky. Other holesoffered a chance to wina television, an airlineticket, and a set of golfclubs. Sad to report,these were not won byanyone this year.In addition to theplayers, 25 sponsorscontributed to the tournamentby sponsoringa hole, providing meals,or in other unique ways.Golfers came fromall around the Carolinasand from as far awayas Greeneville, Tenn.,to enjoy the challenge,the fun, and the fellowship.Approximately$4,500 was raised forthe benefit of Eddlemon<strong>Adventist</strong> School.–BY KENNETH ANDDEBBIE WYNNMorganton Church Grand OpeningTim and Brenda Sheridan (seated left), present pastor; Tony and Mary Ann Cirigliano (standingleft),1991-1998; Jim and Bonnie Davidson, Conference president and morning speaker; Jamesand Doris Wolter, 1954-1957; Leslie and Connie Smart, 1987-1991; Edward and Mary Lee Herzel,1978-1982; and Archer and Anne Livengood, 1952-1954 and 1957-1960The Morganton, N.C.,church recently invitedformer pastors and gueststo the grand opening of itsnew church and school onMay 12, which is locatedjust off Interstate 40 nearthe city of Morganton.The old brick schoolbuilding, which brought<strong>Adventist</strong> education to thearea for so many years,was demolished, makingway for construction of thenew Silver Creek <strong>Adventist</strong>School. The school wasbuilt first, a state-of-the-artstructure which includesthree classrooms, a sciencelab, media center, office,kitchen, and gymnasium.The school is equippedwith high-speed wirelessaccess where computersintegrate technology in theclassrooms.When the RockyfordStreet church was soldin May of 2004, the congregationshared the gymand classrooms with theschool. Three months laterthe church launched theWHGW (We Honor God’sWord) radio station. Theradio station broadcasts onfrequency 100.3 on the FMdial.In the fall of 1939evangelist Harry Taylorconducted meetings in aportable structure, “TheRainbow Tabernacle.”Thirty new membersjoined the church throughbaptism. As a result ofthis event, the Morgantonchurch was established onMay 15, 1940, with ElderB.F. Kneeland serving asthe pastor. It was aboutthis time that remainingmembers of the Glen Alpinechurch on JamestownRoad transferred to eitherthe Table Rock, Laurel, orMorganton churches. It wasthese three churches thatmade up the district at thattime.This is the same propertywhere back in the1920s an <strong>Adventist</strong> schooland health institute operated.The institute waslocated on 186 acres, onboth sides of Jamestownroad. Today, Interstate40 has taken much of theproperty.
