SPORTSHORTS TERMS 3 & 4 – 2008Program offered:Breeze into SailingDescription of program:School based introduction to sailing.When program is available to schools: All year.Ages cater <strong>for</strong>: Reception to Year 12.Will go to schools:YesHow many students can you cater <strong>for</strong>? 35 students per hour. No limit.Schools must provide:Classroom facilities <strong>and</strong> area 5m x10m with 6m height.Organisation will supply:Theory <strong>and</strong> <strong>practical</strong> session with a boat.Cost:$2.00 per student.Program offered:School Team Racing & School RegattasDescription of program:Sail training <strong>and</strong> competition.When program is available to schools: November to April.Ages cater <strong>for</strong>: Years 8 to 12.Will go to schools:Held at a sailing club.How many students can you cater <strong>for</strong>? Subject to availability of coaches <strong>and</strong> boats.Schools must provide:Supervising teacher <strong>and</strong> transport to venue.Organisation will supply:Theory <strong>and</strong> <strong>practical</strong> sessions, plus boats <strong>and</strong> PFDs.Cost:Subject to negotiation.Up <strong>and</strong> Coming events:Professional Development <strong>for</strong> teachers:Cater <strong>for</strong> specific populations?Schools visited in the past:Will go to country areas?SPECIFIC DETAILSClub sailing weekly - October to May.Club <strong>and</strong> Class Regattas - October to May.National <strong>and</strong> World Championships - December <strong>and</strong> January.National Sailing & Windsurfing Instructor Accreditation. NationalPowerboat H<strong>and</strong>ling Certificate. Training courses are conductedquarterly or may be specially arranged <strong>for</strong> groups of at least 6personsAll ages <strong>and</strong> ethnicity, including persons with a disability.Visited schools in all <strong>SA</strong> regions.Subject to travel cost reimbursement. May make arrangementswith local sailing clubs <strong>and</strong>/or DECS aquatic centres in mostareas at very low cost.ANY OTHER COMMENTS/INFORMATIONOn-water programs are available by negotiation with Yachting <strong>SA</strong> at member sailing clubs (in metropolitan <strong>and</strong>country venues) <strong>and</strong> at DECS aquatic centres (eight in city <strong>and</strong> country locations).
